I am looking to pick up a Qi wireless charger for my Iphone X.

Its going to be put to use on my bedstand for overnight charging, so dont want a charger with extra LED bling.

From what I can see there are two flavours which Apple recommend:

Mophie wireless charging base:-

Belkin boost up wireless charging pad:-

I had a quick play with both of these instore and the Apple employee recommended the Mophie over the Belkin (apparantly its slightly better). I did find that the Belkin one did not always pick up my phone when placing it down where as the Mophie did.

As I had not researched this tech at all at the time, I walked away with the view of looking online and perhaps finding better / cheaper alternative, only to become confused with the sheer amount available.

So, long story short, do any of you have any recommendations of what charger to use? Are you using one with your X and are they worth the effort?

I personally prefer the flat chargers as opposed to the stand variety. I quite like the look of the Anker fast charge QI although you would need to buy the fast charger to go with it.

I'm not sure how the Mophie can be "slightly better" it is what it is. I suppose if the Belkin didn't pick up your phone, that's certainly an issue.

I have the 15W Belkin BoostUp, it works flawlessly with my iPhone 8 and charges surprisingly fast. It has a nice soft top to it and there's only a small green light that shows when it's charging.
Though the iPhone is limited to 7.5W, it doesn't matter if you have a 12W, 15W or 20W charger, it'll restrict to 7.5W. Buy 15W and you're covered for the future.

Just going off what the Apple employee mentioned to me whilst asking about them. Both were out on demo and both worked but found the Mophie better at picking up my phone through the leather case. Granted my 2 minutes worth of testing is by no means official haha.

I did find that the belkin one looked a lot better imo.

So I suppose I can either go out and by one of the two official ones today or order a generic one online for delivery tomorrow. A RAVpower and a fast charger works out about £30 delivered (although I think this one is 10w max)

Something that I would be looking closely at is any high frequency noise it makes. I've used Qi chargers for years, but gave up trying to find one I'd want on my bedside table. The two distinct types I'd found were ones that emit a high frequency when charging, or a periodic click when not charging as if it is polling for the device to charge.

Both the Mophie and the Belkin are 3x the price of other chargers. I'm waiting for an Anker to come back in stock. It's hard to know what is worth paying for. My main criteria are:

- Actually works
- Makes no noise (no coil whine, no clicking)
- No lights (needs to be pitch black if it's going on my bedside table)

I have an arsenal of fast wireless chargers from various brands inc Samsung's latest from this year and last.

IMO the best value for money is actually in the Choetech and Tronsmart ones. I have the Tronsmart Chocolate and this Choetech.

Whilst they won't charge any iPhone beyond 7.5W, at least you can charge future devices (or any Samsung) with around 12W. They also make no annoying noises whilst charging, and don't have bright LEDs, just a soft one.

The Samsung ones are better quality, but they also have internal fans which are audible in quiet rooms, and only work with Samsung's adaptive fast charger blocks. Tronssmart/Choetech etc work with any QUickCharge compatible charger block.

There is absolutely no reason to spend more than £20 on a fast wireless charger in 2017 really. The Belkin BoostUp one uses a chunky charger with its own connection. It also makes clicking noises while charging, so not suited for charging if you want silence.

I like the look of the chocolate. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to chargers, as a crappy designed/built charger can ruin your device. I ordered a Samsung one from Amazon (came from a reseller), and after digging around (I wanted to find out how to open it to disable the ridiculous LEDs) it turned out to be fake. Most of that particular model are fake. So I sent it back. Hoping the Anker ticks all the boxes.

Anker, Aukey, Tronsmart, Choetech are all top quality brands in the charging/cables department really.

Their £200 charging pad?

Thats the one (well, if it is actually £200),

Ordered the RAVpower unit through Amazon so should be here today so will give it a test and report back.

I did actually want the Anker one but was out of stock. If the RAVpower one is noisy it will become my office charger.

Why would you want to spend £200 on a charging mat? I'd say I am amazed Apple can charge that price but having moved most of my desktop based hardware away from Apple due to pricing, I'm not.

The Anker one is meant to be delivered on Monday.

I am heavily invested in the Apple eco-system so having a singular place to charge my phone / watch / airpods is something that I would invest in. Yes its expensive (then again so was the Iphone X I just purchased) and I could live without it but I want it so I will purchase one.

Yes I may buy that one also, I could do with a few in total (wife has the 8) so may try a few different brands.

Ah, so your'e the target market for the £79 wireless charging case for the AirPods.

Well items arrived. The pad looks well made, LED light is dim so ok for night time use and pics up the phone well through the official Apple leather case.
