Does anyone know if http://www.qiq.co.uk/ bandwidth of 100 GB is per month or per year? I was thinking of using them, because they look rather tempting at that price TBH, also a friend wanted to use them for custom hosting for a business.

Is there much downtime with them does anyone know?

Every month I believe. I've just signed up to them Saves me £20 a year on my previous hosts!:o

I was speaking to a fellow OcUKer on MSN and I asked about that. He checked and told me that he wasn't sure when he signed up whether it was monthly or yearly. He then told me that he checked his account and that the counter was reset at the end of the month.

If you really want to be sure, email QiQ. They should respond fairly quickly. It doesn't really matter to me if it is monthly or yearly. I doubt I'd need that amount in a year let alone a month.

Think you need to get bledd, greenlizard0 and Zildjian in here. There are the only other QiQ users I know of on OcUK. Apart from me of course, but I only signed up yesterday.

qiq.co.uk are a Heart Internet reseller, as far as I know.
Just did a WHOIS lookup on the IP and sure enough, the domain resolves to Heart Internet. They may have improved recently, but the last time I heard about Heart Internet they were one of those "zomg unlimited bandwidth, unlimited space for £5/month!!1" hosts. Needless to say, going on that I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I seem to remember hearing good things about QiQ as a web development and branding company, but from what I can see they are far from ideal as a host. If it is indeed true that they are Heart Internet resellers, this strengthens my views. £16.99/year for 10GB space and 100GB/month transfer? That's about as sustainable as a chocolate teapot!

Hmmm... I have to admit to being tempted simply because the price is so low, worst comes to the worst I suppose I could use them for email alternates or something?

How does the domain name thing workout in cost?

Domain name thing? Do you mean having QiQ hold the domain for you? .co.uk are £5 to transfer to them and £8.48 every 2 years. .com are £10 to transfer to QiQ and £21.50 every two years. I pay £8.99 + VAT every year for my .com so I won't move my domain to QiQ since that part of their service isn't cheaper than my current domain holder.

Well, I was going to actually register an entirely new domain name since I dont have webspace at the moment... so was just wondering if it would be cheaper just to buy from them directly or not :)

Ah OK. I have my domain with 1&1, costs £8.99 + VAT. I think one or two of the other QiQ people use 123 Reg.

I think QiQ are more expensive for domains than the normal domain registering companies, dunno why though. QiQ wanted £21.50 every two years. I assume this is inclusive of VAT. This works out to £10.75 a year. If VAT isn't included in the £21.50 it costs £12.63 a year. Either way it is more expensive than 1&1 for hosting.

They gotta make a profit somewhere with that insane hosting price, I'd expect :)
