Ok the thread title explains it all really..

AMD Phenom or Intel Q6600+?

Would be using a PC for.

- Gaming
- Video/DVD
- Music
- Coding
- Web browsing
- Any other random stuff I decide to do.

When you post please say which one you think, and why :P Always like to know a reason.

Q6600, because a) they clock further (if that is your thing), b) they seem better clock for clock, and c) because they aren't broken.

If you desperately want an AMD, wait for the B3 stepping in spring.

At the moment the only reason to go AMD would be if you've got a Phenom compatible motherboard and want a cheap upgrade to Quad Core. The Intels run faster, are better clock-for-clock, overclock much further and aren't slowed by a bios update that AMD are trying to force onto new motherboards to fix an error that only affects a minority of users

If you can wait a month the prices on the Q6 range may well drop when the new Q9's are released

May not, from past experiences.
The e6600 was still very high even though the e6650 came out.

Normally Intel just faze out the old tech very quickly and bring in the new tech. i may be wrong though, plus if you can wait, you may get a better deal.

now for some sane advice.

a simple word, wait.

Intel has new quads coming soon which should knock the prices of current stock down a touch plus AMD`s B3 stepping of phenoms are on the way and how they will perform even god himself doesnt know, but you should see them hitting around the £100 price mark fairly soon which will make them better value than the intel offering if they clock well enough.

I'd go for E8xxx line, granted not quad but if you're not 3D rendering / encoding all day, then a faster dual makes more sense.

I was a supporter of single to dual core, but not dual-quad for the average heavy PC user (non professional)

I wouldn't say AMD were that far behind at the moment to be honest. They're brining their 45nm tech in for H2 this year, and all the while, Intel are hardly 'flooding the channel' with E8000 parts from what I've been seeing. At least a couple of places have said they've had trouble getting parts. RV770 (and probably its multi-core form, R700) is coming soon.

AMD may be having some trouble, but they're not Northern Rock by any means. :)

intel quads are faster so as you don't have a motherboard yet, just go with intel... but btw the phenom isn't far behind and isn't a bad cpu....

Intel....end of the story,

AMD lost the game and they can't/will not recover.
your talking crap...
