Quad core cooling...

well from what i can find at stock anything from 1.10v to 1.30v it chucks out 105w.

would be nice if we could run these at 1.10v but i think thats dreaming some how.

good luck, 2.85v is the lowest i have seen on most motherboards :(

edit 1.85v but will leave the above to show my own stupidity :D

Did you mean 2.85? :p

Currently loading up the system as much as possible with the Vcore at 1.275 in bios. Running Orphos on the first 2 cores, and leaving SuperPi running on the other 2 cores at the meantime, might swap over to rendering in 3dsmax as that seems to really slow systems down.
Is there a better way to fully load a quad core, since Orphos can only run once, and on 2 cores.

Not expecting much with the Vcore this low, but temps are nicer than they were before (although still pretty crap - heatsink remount when I'm home from Uni!)
10 minutes in, so far so good ;)

lol i did indeed mean 1.85v lol

think i would have let the magic smoke out by now if it was 2.85v :D

to be honest i havent tested mine for 100% stability, as long as i can play games stable then im happy. use my laptop for any work related tasks lol

The Thermalright ultra looks nice, but I don't think its worth me replacing my Zalman 9500 for another air cooler if I'm planning on using water soon.

Are you sure? check out the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme (not the normal version), that keeps high clocked core2's (high clocks as in 3.96ghz stable) 6c lower than even a tuniq tower, thats boardering on water cooling territory and a whole lot safer, consider it, im defo getting it when I go quad in a month or so :)

Hmmm will do some reading up.
But Watercooling is something I've wanted to do for a while now :)

On another note, cpu has been at full tilt for 2 hours 42 minutes in Orphos, along with 3dsmax rendering a large video on the other 2 cores (gets a higher temp than SuperPi was)

Might try dropping the vcore some more!

edit, temps are much better now, seems stable with only 1.275v at 2.4GHz. Hitting 70 on load, still far too hot for what it should be....
50 on idle now.

the titan amanda only has a 50w teac/tec im no expert, but that would only deal with 50w worth of heat right?

the quad core xeon x3210 at stock chucks out 105w of heat.

again im no expert so could be way off, but i dont think i am :(

You would be right if the Amanda relied soley on the TEC - It would be overwhelmed and melt down in no time - But with the Amanda they've been quite clever, and the base is cooled by both the Pelt and the Heatpipes/Radiator fins - so you get an additional 50W of cooling rather than a Max of 50W.

The problem with the normal c2ds was that the TEC doesn't come on until 40C (ish - can't remember the exact number) so it didn't show much improvement as the TEC was idling on the cool c2d - now with a Quad... :D

It's not all roses of course - the Fins have to deal with the extra 50W thrown out by the TEC so you do have to bear that in mind (hence you need good case cooling) - but then of cource the higher the Delta across the fins the more effective they are ;) - and no I can't/won't demonstrate the maths - I just believe in thermodynamics - it's easier than understanding it :p

lol.

well im tempted to try one, and they have them back in stock, just for summat to do i guess.

Waiting on some cash to come in from the sale of my 6400, will have a think on it.

I was selling my titan amanda but the sale fell through, i've stuck it on the lapped q6600 just now and will see what the temps are like at 3ghz with 1.37v.
Will give prime a blast for 10 mins and see.

hmmm may have to leave it then,

im getting 40-42c at idle on all 4 cores and 62-68c on load with the gemini II at the moment.

I really think h2o is the only way to go to keep these chips really cool.

its as i thought,

a fair few other sites have said the amanda would have been better with a 75w tec on it, but even then it still isnt up cooling 105+w

:( shame
