Hi,
Can anyone think of any current games that can utilise quad core? i'm trying to decide which CPU to buy and seriously thinking about the Q6600 cCore2Quad.
all i know are:
Supreme commander
Lost planet: colonies
Crysis?

anyone think of any others? i know future games will start using quad core but not sure when/

Can I just ask, as I don't know, are the games you have listed confirmed as using all 4 cores? I was aware of games that could use 2, but not actually use more than that.

lost planet can when you change one of the option from 2 to 4
i'm sure supreme commander does, but not confirmed and i assumes crysis should

Far Cry 2 probably gets a big gain from it, quite often I see my C2D running at 85%+ so there's some headroom for a quad to stretch it's legs.

Well.... the problem is that with some games it's almost impossible to get good returns from quadcore, because one or two threads will be the bottleneck. I guess you could say in a FPS game, you'd want one core doing rendering, one doing physics, one doing AI and one handling everything else (sound/networking/input etc) or somethign like that. But chances are the rendering thread will max out sometimes and leave part of the other cores sitting idle.

Doesnt seem too many UT3 has some good Quadcore use, supreme done good also but was a tad questionable.

Has anyone got any Farcry 2 mulitcore benchies ?

Sadly that doesn't even slightly mean that it could utilise quad core in any kind of effective way. I'm not saying that it *doesn't* utilise quad core well, just that the game's ability to use up 85%+ on a dual core doesn't indicate anything for quad core.

i've not played/seen much of farcry but have a copy of FSX so hopefully it does, then it's worth buying the quad.

I have FSX with SP1 and it's the only game I've ever seen max out all my cores to 100%.
Will have to get SP1 mind, I think pre-SP1 multi core support was a bit flaky.

all games on unreal engine 3

FC2 benchmark on multiple cores.. 3ghz phenom, which is roughly the same speed as c2d clock to clock

You're right, but I can confirm that FC2 does use all four cores, and really well. My cores are usually at ~80% each, and peak at 85-90% total CPU usage on a 3.4 C2Q. Pretty impressive really, tho only other thing I've ever used that utilized all four cores so well was an x264 encoder.

that game is turning into the new duke nukem forever its taking that long :)

gta 4 has quad support it seems

yeah, some of the first DX10 screenshots i remember seeing were from this game, lol

hope this is worth the wait, i doubt Duke Nukem will be

i know duke nukem wont be

even if its the best game ever it will struggle to live up to the hype
