Quad-core in native Ubuntu.

Running two virtual machines in Windows, each with two SMP clients, gets me a maximum of around 3,500 ppd, usually a lot less due to pesky 1385 pointers.

And because the nice Scottish bloke at Crucial told me today that I could just return the single faulty stick from each pair of my borked memory (since all four sticks were from the exact same batch and the two good sticks should be fine together), I've decided to carry on using native Ubuntu for a bit to see what sort of output is possible with four SMP clients.

Currently running two 3029 and 3050 WU's, each being worth 1440 points-

CPU1 (3029) -

So the 3029's are averaging about 17.5mins per frame, and the 3050's are averaging about 18 mins per frame.

If my calculations are correct, I'm averaging ~1185ppd per 3029, and ~1150ppd per 3050. So we'll say an average of 1170ppd per client.

Making a total of ~4680ppd . That's a gain of almost 1200ppd over what I've been able to achieve running in VMware :eek:
 
Nice gains.

I tried native Ubuntu on my C2D and found it reduced frame times of 1 client by around 1 minute, a nice gain but yours is very nice.

As an aside, can you tell me what the PPD is like for one client running on all 4 cores? Since that is what the client is designed for.
 
Give me a few minutes and I'll see.

The 4 threads are using 14%, 14%, 15% and 23% each of the CPU respectively, so about ~65% in total. The four clients max it out. I'll see what two clients use in a moment.

Three clients are using 83% of the total CPU.

Is windows smp that bad then? :confused:

According to fahmon im only getting 1990ppd? On a 2652

quad at 3ghz here, if this is what im going to be getting i think i will move back over to vm. :(

*edit* its gone up to 2160ppd overnight

slightly better but still far away from Lsmp :(
