Quad core must be soon ocuk selling mobos

XP Pro will use a maximum of 2 physical sockets however only 4 logical processors can be used, hence a single socket quad core cpu will work. DUAL socket quad core will not, in this case you will need Server 2003 STD or above.

dual socket quad core as in 2 sockets and 8 cores (4+4) should work with
win xp fine

Q. How does this licensing policy affect products such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional?

A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home are not affected by this policy as they are licensed per installation and not per processor. Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one processor.

XP Home is one CPU, XP Pro is up to 2 CPU's.

A CPU can have as many cores as the CPU manufacturers can manage.

As I said. :)

Depends entirely on how many threads a program uses, I wouldn't be surprised if most multithreaded games only actually spawn two seperate threads at the moment.

Yep, looking at the toms hardware kentsfield benchmarks, plenty of multithreaded apps don't make any use of the 2 extra cores in quad core, whereas some others do. IIRC, none of the multithreaded games benifited from quad core, except for the 3d mark 06 cpu benchmark if you can call that a game.

4Ghz quadcore, 4Gb ram and Quad SLi, now thats an idea, anyone want to contribute to the Quad fund? :p

yes i agree normal people would have no use for 4 cores, at the moment there is little to take advantage over dual core.

nevertheless its good to have tomorrows tech today ;)

was on a site the other day and it said they were going to be out mid october so i wont be looking to upgrade till they are out and the current duo's should get a bit cheaper.

Quad core wont be out till the end of the year and more likely early next year. They'll be introduced as part of the extreme range so I dont expect the allendale chips to get cheaper any time soon

With all this about dual quadcore processors something has popped into my head.

How many dual core motherboards that supprot conroe are out there? Early next year will be upgrade time so this is kinda appealing to me :D

wtf are you on!? dual core motherboards?

All new LGA775 mobos support conroe, about 75% of them support Kentsfeild.

P5B Deluxe supports Kentsfeild...

Sorry, error on my part :( . What i meant was are there many dual socket motherboards out for conroe. :p

i dont think core 2 duo can run in dual sockets

im sure they can not run in multi cpu configurations

Clovertown is not part of the core 2 duo range.
