Hi just out of interest how much more powerful is an Intel Quad Core PC with 2 Gig Ram & Nvidia 8800GTS compared with an XBox 360?

Just wanted to get things into perspective before i take the plunge and buy a new gaming rig!

Thanks.

lol @ above

look, if you have the money, buy the PC, simple as. It will out perform the 360 by MILES, however, i'd advise waiting for the new Nvidea cards, as they are reportedly not far away

"Intel Quad Core PC with 2 Gig Ram & Nvidia 8800GTS" is more powerfull than a XBOX 360 but the XBOX 360 will have many more games than the PC and they will look stunning.

A 360 is only £179 - £229 so why not just get one instead of the 8800GTS and save for the next Nvidia GPU :)

my pc is probly better then an xbox 360 and iv got a C2D e2060 1.8Ghz@3Ghz
2gig of ram and a 512 meg x1950pro

i doubt that ....

I got tore up between the two versions. Booted up both at the same time (The demo that is). I dunno what it is but i prefer the Xbox version. I'm running a X1900XT-X which is still quite a good card. FPS wasn't a problem and it ran smooth as silk but the picture quality seemed a lot better on the Xbox, as did the lighting. Running latest cats and 1280x1024 resolution with everything on max (Appart from direct x10). The funny thing was the load sequences were a lot shorter on the xbox too (2gb Ram and 74GB Raptor). I guess it's just down to the programming. I have no input on the direct x10 version but from a 9 vs 9 view i prefered the Xbox version. The only downside is having to use the pad on the xbox and if there is no southpaw control setting it's gonna be a pain for me ><.

fromo what iv seen of games id say the xbox 360 is more powerful when it comes to games, and the pc would be quicker when doing stuff like video encoding and other pc stuff.
but it depends on how well the software is programmed. on the console its rare to get crap programmed stuff i shudder to think what sort of pc spec would run gears of war at 1080p like the xbox does.

...and here ladies and gentlemen we have a classic case of people who think consoles are that much better. They aren't really.

Fact of the matter is you're running games slightly higher (or more) than "1080p" on a PC if you have the right monitor. (1920x1080 FYI)

Also if you recall or not, Gear of War is coming out on the PC and will no doubt look better and have higher FPS, for some of us, not all.

I mean heck, bioshock is both on the PC and XBOX360, which has capped FPS and which has not? Which runs at a higher res? which is scaleable more than the other?

And to be quite frank with you, all the top console games people rave about, every time I play them I think, "They've really hidden some of the uglyness with the over the top bloom/hdr and motion blur"...but that's again, "some games"!.

Sure, you don't have to worry about drivers and compatibility etc.

Lest not forget, the PC world is getting better and better hardware again, and the next console is when? Who knows! :P

How many 360 owners run at 1080p? i didn't know many if any games on 360 go upto 1080p at a good framerate if so i am impressed.

Yeah does the XBOX even go that high? and the majority of people I know have 1080i HDTV's. Bitten by the marketing bug and went for "TrueHD" and dazzling jargon.
