ive been wondering just now, what software actually fully supports quad core, and uses puts all 4 cores under nice load. got slow performance in winrar, core 1 at 50% all others at 10%

Sorry this does not reguard your issue but,

Just noticed that you are using 4gb ram in win XP 32 bit. Does this work ok for you as i have heard that it is only supported in vista?

Whats supported in Vista?

Vista 32 can only use the same amount as XP 32 can.

As he has a 512mb gfx card I'd imagine he can use about 3.2Gb of his memory. It works fine, you can just can't use it all.

Only XP 64 and Vista 64 can use all 4Gb.

nope it doesn't, vista32 is same as xp32.. if u mean vista sp1 it only shows 4gb but it still doesn't use it all...

i don't know about winrar but 7zip uses all 4 cores when tasked to compress/decompress something big.

lots of my other software like Lightroom and Fireworks use all four cores, but windows is very good ad dynamically allocating CPU time, so if you're running more than one program that doesn't fully support multi-processing, windows will distribute load between the cores anyway.

exactly right, it says 3.25gb, however the diff between xp32 + vista = vista feels faster, in opening folders and using firefox and prefect/ less lag doing things.. but XP has better performance but feels slightly slower as there is sometimes large large to open firefox (like 2 seconds).. but 3d06 is like 800 more points than vista64 for me, and my soundcard is not supported, so its either mobo sound or audigy 2 zs

Ok guys thanks for the replies on the memory thing as i just wondered if it is worth putting 4gig in an xp 32 system.

Sorry for taking it off topic platinum87
