is it better do you think to get a core2quad or core2duo. the machine is for gaming and heard mixed opinions.

i will either be getting a core2quad for this pc, or moving my core2duo and putting a core2quad in my other machine (thats used mainly for video encoding etc and vmware type apps) < although if you convince me otherwise ;)

you'll see better difference in performance with a quad in video encoding etc.., for games it doesn't matter at the moment duo or quad

Well I've just bought an E2180 dual core...but thats only a stopgap until the Q9450's are out!

Was going for a Q6600 but previews of the Penryn made me reconsider. Runs cooler, clock for clock is faster, extra instruction sets etc. Just made more sense (for me) to wait until they're released. Plus scanning the reviews, current games (with the odd exception) are GPU bound, so an overclocked E2180 runs as well as a Q6600, give or take a few seconds if that! And the extra cache seems not to be crucial either (in games).

yeah when are they due? are these using a new chipset and socket as well?

also is it better with a faster fsb or more cores, because the current quad range are 1066fsb and the top duo's are 1333.
