I have a quad core 9550 @ stock 2.8ghz

I was using the stock heatsink/fan but was way t noisy. I got the noctua and things are better but as with previous cooler theres still a 10C difference between cores

core0:42C
core1:41C
core2:33C
core3:30C

like i said, it was same thing with previous cooler so has nothing to do with the cooler being seated correctly or not.

systems at 40C according to speedfan. Running Sonata2 so not much room for air

What are the full load temps like, you might have a stuck / faulty sensor or like jimmybates mentions your IHS may not be completely flat.

use realtemp to test for stuck sensors.

Most probably the case is a unlevel IHS, place it on a mirror to see if it rocks, idealy it should sit flat with no gap but it never happens like that

IHS?

whats this story about lapping?

at load, so this is while rendering a complex scene in 3ds max

core0:49C
core1:49C
core2:42C
core3:43C

I still have a variation in mine, 2 cores load at 68 and the other 2 at 62, this is even after lapping cpu and cooler. There was always a variation, with 4 different coolers, stock intel, acf7, noctua and TRUE black.

My last q6600 was the same 1 core about 9c lower idle but about the same under load i just left it was fine all the time i had it.
if it was still 10c behind underload i would say there was somthing wrong with it but is not the case so dont worry to much
