Ive been looking through steam and ive seen quake listed near the top in multiplayer for the metascore. Ive got and had quake for many years but if i bought it again through steam is there loads of people playing it online??

Dunno about loads but Quakeworld is popular. Also at the last Quakecon the guys had to play finals on all 4 quakes! Quadv got vids I think :)

sorry, no idea what qwtf is and quake wars in general. is it worth getting on steam to be able to play some multiplayer servers (im guessing steam have a lobby or something)

I have quake installed but dont know anything about quake wars

Does Quake have a serial key? If so, you may not need to buy it again- just signt he key up into Steam, and you don't even need to install with your media (so auto patched).

You can add Quake 1 to the steam system now!

wether or not the system searches for servers for you aswell i dont know, but steam have been advertising and selling Quake... so id say pretty much that it does. :D

thats exactly what i want to find out before i waste money on something i already have that doesnt even find any servers or have a lobby

anyone bought it on steam?

Don't play it through Steam but there's load of QW servers. Use www.quakeservers.net or All Seeing Eye.

If you just want a quick blast then xs4all FFA server is a good place to start ( quake.xs4all.nl:27500 ).

^NB I'm referring to Quakeworld here, not NQ ('normal' Quake). The QW community is much larger than NQ due in large part to the vastly improved netcode.

I recomend gamespy to find servers. Not gamespy arcade, but regular gamespy. The company actually started from a couple of guys who made a Quake server browser called Quakespy and took off from there. Best server browser ever, in my opinion.

^A word of warning about the above: Gamespy is an incredibly bad server browser for QW nowadays because it is dependent on old, outdated QW master servers. Probably at least 80% of active QW servers won't show up in Gamespy.

Sure, in it's day Quakespy was the best option, but All Seeing Eye (created by a couple of QW players / proxy coders, Zibbo and Perkele) is light years ahead of Gamespy as far as QW is concerned.

ok I need to know were i can get all the files to play quakeworld, I've my original quake disks here (working) so if anyone has the other files I'll love em long time

Cheers for the heads up. I've not been into QW for some time now, so I wasn't too sure. I'm thinking about playing some MegaTF again, myself, I must say.
