Jsut wondering if anyone can help... Basically whenever i turn on "Multiple Core CPU" in the Advanced settings, the game (once restarted as required) will crash when i try loading a map/server....

Ive got a Core 2 Duo if that helps...

Cheers!

I don't have Quake4 myself, but seen as I was already browsing TweakGuides I thought I'd look.

[Dual Core/HyperThreading Tweaks]
r_useSMP [0,1] - By default Quake 4 is designed for running on single core CPUs. However if you have a dual core (or multi-core) CPU, or an Intel CPU with HyperThreading, setting this option to 1 will force the game engine to Symmetric MultiProcessing (SMP). This significantly increases the performance of Quake 4 (with the 1.2 patch or higher) for systems with Dual Core/HyperThreading CPUs. Note that if you set this option to 1 on a single core CPU, the game engine will automatically detect the fact that you don't have a dual core system and not enable SMP. It is strongly recommended all dual core/HT users set this option to 1.

Cheers for your time matey, ive enabled that, its just when that is enabled, the problem arises :S

my quake 4 crashes occasionally when I try joining a server....the game shuts down and starts the little client screen...then crashes.

This is only in Vista 64 though and I haven't checked to see if it's a problem with the multicore setting or not.

When it crashes I just try again til it works...I've just been dealing with it I guess and hoping they fix the problem when 1.4 official is released.

There was a patch, but i actually found the solution was to disable the EAX effects in the sound options.

I only had the issue after getting an x-Fi
