I knows Its old but I am going to start playing this again and I am looking for the cfg tweaks to make it look the best possible I know there where some commands to increase the IQ but cannot remember them .

increase the geometary etc

any ideas?

I was feeling the christmas cheer :)

Might re-install it myself if I get the chance - though Ive got a dozen of unplayed games around me...

I didn't see a huge difference in gameplay between 3 and 4 (multiplyer that is), but the gfx difference is immense. Maybe it's just time to hit up Quake 4 and enjoy the pretty gfx?

You couldn't feel a difference between the physics of Q3A and Q4? Q4 is a terrible replacement for Q3A in terms of online play (such a shame Q3A doesn't have the best online menu system).

I hate the feel of Q4 with a passion, but still play Q3A from time to time. InstaUnlagged 1v1 Q3DM17 for the win!

Joking me right?!?

Q3 is much more fluid - its really hard to explain tangibly, but Q4 is nothing like Q3 and sits between Q2 and Q3. Patches have helped, but to enjoy Q4 you have to forget how tuned Q3 was...

Not joking, I found the action to be fast paced and roughly along the same lines of what I enjoyed about the original Quakes.
 
Classic game. Any friendly clans knocking around that accept new members. PLayed it last year and it was full of people using bots. People getting 50 frags in like a minute.
 
i remember the days of the q3test when i think there was only two or three maps out with it.

i think enemy territory is going to get a beta so lets hope its as fun as the q3test days.

QuakeIII is the better game online, its hasn't been matched for a 1v1 tourney multiplayer in my mind.
 
perhaps we could start up a small ladder ?

I used to love playing in demonclans league a few years back, porbably enjoyed them days more than now .

I used to think instagib on dm17 using the upper two ramps reminded me of joulsting. was great fun .

Unfortunately ET:QW is in the middle of a closed beta :( - unsure if theyll open it up but heres hoping...

I used to play vctf and osp/3w ctf religiously - only thing I play on q4 come to think of it too...

With CPL going back to using Q3 I guess its having a small comeback - still dont understand why they droppped it for painkiller - Q3 online is virtually perfect...

I had the Q3Ademotest, then the Q3Atest, DM7 and DM17 were the only original maps, at least until they introduced Tourney1 in the Q3Atest release.

Fun times!
 
I'm just getting into the Q3 online goodness too. Been whupping bots for ages. Now getting my head handed to me (predictably) by most of the online crowd.

Will be up for online fun.
 
Any preferences for game modes on a server? I used to run a few and still have configs for most of them around.

Currently host some on our 1.3 mbit upload Be connection but the LAN I run will be setting up some properly hosted servers soon - would be happy to run a couple of Q3 ones ;)

Really would be great if the community for Q3 was anything like the old times. I keep trying to get more people at the lan to play it seriously by running tourneys/etc but it's not quite the same :/
