Pity id havent bothered their arse to make a mac client that works. That over 3 years now.

Pity ID have not really bothered with Quake live at all, no advertisement, barely any features brought in such as a ladder or tournament mode and a horrible subscription system.

They've now also dropped Chrome support =/

Yeah. Sucks hard donkey danglies.

At the same time as not bothering with QL, they also pretty much killed Q3A.

I was really looking forward to some barrysworld style tourneys/leagues etc. This was back in late08/early 2009.

yes quakelive killed q3a which was a shame they should have released the visual tweaks and what not as a paid for download I would have bitten there hand off.

How does it compare to the earlier games? I'm looking for a challenging FPS, and from what I've heard I'll get truly owned for a long time before I get the hang of it...

Welcome to the forums RPL :)

I dipped back into QuakeLive briefly a month or two back. It's a very different and more highly skilled game when compared to the likes of (e.g.) BFBC2. I used to be pretty good at Q3 back in the day but I absolutely sucked at QuakeLive when I played it most recently. On the bright side, coming back to BC2 after a day or two of QL play improved my BC2 play immensely as it felt like everyone reacted in slow motion. Sadly that state quickly wore off as I've not been back to QL since :)

Thanks mate :) A quick aside, I think I said I was going to add you on Steam, but I'm unable to at the mo as I've never bought anything on it (yes I'm a PC gaming noob).

I'm still improving at BC2, quite slowly these days, but was looking for something with a higher skill ceiling, so will try to give QL a bash soon. Will prob get owned and ragequit :D

No worries /re Steam :)

I think you'll find QL a very rewarding game if you manage to stick with it. If you'd like something a little easier to transition to (but still with a lot of the things that make Q3 engine games great and highly skilled) then I'd recommend checking out Urban Terror first :)

Hmmm, interesting, I'll check out Urban Terror more closely when I get home, cheers! Don't want to pick up too many games though, I spend too long playing BC2 as it is, so might just dive in at the deep end with QL.
