Id Software's John Carmack and Marty Stratton sound off on Quake Live, a free web browser-based remake of the competitive classic Quake III Arena -- and hint at Quake 5, Doom 4, and a free Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Live, too.

its an excellent remake of the game. near perfect infact. The UI is has messed around though, and i keep looking in the wrong places for everything, but that can probably be got used to.

omg i lost 1000's of hours playing q3 and am drooling at the prospect of this, just wish some kind person would give me beta key send me key pretty please
i signed up day it was announced but still had no joy :(

Dont bother, you will be very disapointed.

Ive had a beta key for months. Played a bit. Its just Q3 with a gay frontend that means you have very little control over the game you play, and its just not the same as q3. Stick with q3, qlive is a backwards step.

That can't be right. It looks like one of those open source "we added a texture or two" Q3 projects. Surely no one expects to be paid in this day and age for something like this? Or are they trying to tap into Mongolian market with it?

its free, plays in a browser or full screen and will play on any pc out there

Yeah, it's more the match-up, social and accessibility features that are making the game different from Q3. The gameplay itself is no different.

Ok..

I would rather it looked like Quake 1 tbh...

QL quake with people running about in super hero skins!!

They're team skins - Most of the Quake mods came with them. You obviously never played competitively. Even if they based it on Quake 1 i bet some bright skins would have been added still.

Some people obviously missing the point and rather uninformed in this thread. I've been in the beta for a while now - not had much chance to play what with moving house but it's coming along very nicely. It's quite an interesting system and the devs are really listening to the testers and adding/changing things as necc.
