Hi all

My misses loves most online fps games so after giving her quake 3 to try im wondering if quake wars is any good as i missed that one myself but im sure i remember reading its not like other quakes? and also if its still well populated

cheers

Its still active but its fairly niche now. Its very different from other quake games with vehicle as well as foot combat and objectives.

Sadly it seems its too complicated to follow simple objective markers and formulate a dynamic strategy to a changing situation on the move for most people so the game never got the recognition it deserved.

Already got a account there m8:cool:;)

Well there isn't much else made these days purely for fast paced DM combat. UT3 was pretty bad, Quake 4 wasn't terrible but didn't pick up the player base so wouldn't bother with it. Quake Wars is a BF hybrid, faster paced but featuring vehicles over larger objective based maps. Painkiller I know is taken seriously as a competitive esports FPS but not sure of its public popularity so perhaps give it a try.

Whats her stance on games like Team Fortress 2 / Monday Night Combat?

ET:QW was actually a pretty decent game but sadly failed to catch on as it was overly complicated for most players.

Quake 4 is the same formula as q3 just with better graphics, I'm not sure how easy it is to find a populated server these days though

I still play ET:QW but only every so often, it's LOTS of fun but it's got 0 support now sadly

Meh, had a lot of promise in the trailers ut the gameplay didn't do it for me. They made a big deal about no fog in the game so you could see the entire map (a shot at BF2), but it was substituted with massive popup. You could be flying along and all of a sudden enemies would appear from nowhere beneath you. Then you had to try and swing around and hope they would appear before you'd overshoot them again.

The infantry combat was also farsical, just seemed to be people bouncing around most of the time.

The trailers had me hooked bu the game itself was a big letdown imo :(

I've no idea what you're talking about - popup? Didn't really notice it myself.

It really does sound like you're talking about a different game there.
