Quake wars

I've no idea what you're talking about - popup? Didn't really notice it myself.

It really does sound like you're talking about a different game there.

Nope, was involved in both betas and had the special edition. There was no fog so the game seemed to have a weird drawdistance for enemies, especially if you were in an aerial vehicle. Wasn't unusual for that strogg walker to be totally invisible till you were a short distance away from it then it would suddenly appear (again if you were in a flying vehicle).

Maybe it was addresed in later patches, i only played it for a short time before not bothering with it anymore.

I played in both betas also and really can't say I noticed that at all. Perhaps it was a weird graphics issue (as I remember it having plenty with both nvidia and ati cards).

The draw distance on players and vehicles was tragically short, but not as bad as your saying so I'm assuming something was cocked up in your config. There were settings tho to force things to draw out to any distance - which could kinda hit performance.

Reason I stopped playing it tho was the netcode - about 2-3 builds after they fixed the vehicle prediction issues the netcode was spot on - probably the best I've ever seen in a game - sure it used a bit of bandwidth but nothing stupidly high... but then they went crazy trying to "opptomise" it with area of relevance crap, etc. and by the quakecon build there was lots of "dead zones" for want of a better way to describe it... pretty much pleaded with them to put it back how it was but never happened :(

My config was totally stock besides res and graphics settings, i didn't add any tweaks to it. Never played the final product long enough to see how patches changed it any. :o

ET:QW promod was awesome - wish the competitive scene would take off. Shame was let down by shoddy netcode to begin with.

Very Fun game. It just became less and less popular. I ended up selling my copy. If I'm ever able to pick it up for about a quid, I think I'd do it. Thanks to this thread, I miss it.

Thats the other reason I stopped playing it... later patches completely noobified the game - i.e. messages that you were in line of sight of a sentry turret... if you need an onscreen message to know that you (the player) really shouldn't be playing video games...
