quake3 ubuntu = no sound

hi installed q3 and it runs but cant get any sound :(

i have tried IOquake3 thingy and sound works but then it don't have punk buster support :( so I can't play online


ideas please most welcome!

I had a similar problem way back in RH7.x
Try starting it via
echo "quake3.x86 0 0 direct" >/proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

Also might be worth checking your user has rw permission for the /dev/dsp file

Try
sudo echo "quake3.x86 0 0 direct" >/proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

Other than that i dont really know as i use Fedora, its got something to do with disabling arts and using the oss sound deamon :)
