Hey guys, it's that time of the year again, Quakecon starts today in Dallas. :)
I watch it every year mainly for the QuakeLive duels and finals but there's other entertaining stuff on as well, particularly on saturday when they hand out tons of expensive nerd goodies like graphic cards and complete pcs.

This is the tournament stream but I think it should be the main stream for things like the keynote speech. Apparently Carmack is on 2.30pm to 4.30pm dallas time, so I make that 8.30pm to 10.30pm UK time. I wonder what he'll talk about this time. I noticed a thread here about a virtual reality headset, so maybe that.

Wonder if he'll respond to how rage pretty much tanked even though it was their big new IP they'd been working on for so long, i think everyone expected more from that game.

Yeah..I'm interested to hear what he has to say about that.

He's normally fairly brutal with regards to him messing things up...

Expected so much more from that game =/ for it to release how it did after being worked on since 2004 was pretty laughable, the totally static environments were a big letdown.

Th kind of thing I expected from ID. It's all tech, although their attempt at moving away from straight shooters is commendable, they are not Bethesda / Bioware.

I didn't even bother as it looked like a Fallout ripoff from the gameplay vids

That says more about you than about the game or the gameplay videos I'm afraid.

It was by no means a great game but even the smallest amount of thought and research would quickly lead to the conclusion that the only things it shared with Fallout were the first person view and the post-apocalyptic setting.

From my albeit brief experience of fallout its different enough to actually play to be enjoyable in its own right in that regard.

Theres a really great game IMO underneath RAGE but the combination of the limits of emerging technology/hardware capabilities and what is essentially an experiment with a new gameplay direction for id let it down. Theres some of the best gameplay moments I've experienced in the game but the rest plays out pretty average when it could be a lot better.

For example you get some weapons/items at the end of an area that are really fun to use but they have no useful function in the next area(s) of the game and theres no good reasons to go back to the areas where they work well but if you happened to have missed some pockets from the previous area and go back and use those weapons/items its an absolute blast.

It doesnt really though does it  , The only thing it really says about him is that he doesnt like fallout and the game from his point of view seeing as he hasnt played it looks like fallout 3, and it does until you play it.
