Yup, I'm now fully qualified to dress as a Power Ranger as I actually passed my Direct Access Full Motorcycle test - First attempt too!

Yesterday morning I really didnt think I had a chance to pass, it seemed everything I did would result in my instructor shouting and screaming at me. Went for a small break during lunch time and I decided to just sit back, relax and take it easy.

This morning I passed with no minors and no majors! For some reason he thought I'd been riding bikes for years. Only had one years riding experience on an RS125, that was over 2 years ago and for only one year.

So chuffed!

Off to look at bikes, considering either an R6 or GSXR 600. Theres someone on the forums with one Im interested in, or off to DK Motorcycles have a look at new stuff!

Congrats :)
The R6 will be cheaper to insure, after that most people say its personal preference.

I've heard that too - about the insurance. Not sure why that may be the case, performance wise there very similar, no?

Im 20. My 2004 R6 insurance - £380
quote I had for a GSXR - £1080, ZX636 - £1150
Pretty much the same performace (all with 2 or 3 hp) R6 is the lightest of the lot in 03/04/05 guise, and I think they are all group 15.

all with bennets TPFT by the way.

I think out of the 3 I'd rather have the R6 anyway, but as you can see in my other post I am Biased :D

But the insurance thing made my decision for me if it wasnt already made. it was even cheaper than a CBR 600f  FFS!

Its strange you say that as its usually the GSXR600 that is the cheapest to insure out of the lot of them! From the SRAD600 through to the K3 model it was only insurance group 14, not sure what the new model is though.

I found Motorcycle direct very competitive when it came to insuring 600's

for some reason, it may just be a mistake at bennerts (but one I will take advantage of) my insurance is £600 cheaper on an R6.

my power ranger qualification is well and truely complete with my Berik leathers and Alpinestas boots/gloves.

Just been to DK Motorcycles in Stoke. I've seen the most attractive, sexual bike ever; Honda CBR 600RR in full Repsol livery. I just cant get anyone to insure me on it :(

I've noticed a HUGE difference in insurance prices for the 600's; CBR600RR, R6, GSXR600. The Yammy is £400 TPFT, the CBR and Gixxer between £1300-2500!!
Looks like insurance costs are going to be the deciding factor for me too. Ideally I'd have gone for the GSXR600, then the CBR600RR.

Nevermind, thankfully I find them all good looking though.

Welcome to the fold. :)

Now go out and ride and enjoy the weather, but take it easy. :)

Trying to decide on a 2001 R6 @ £4000 with 7k miles, 6 mnth warrenty. New Rear tyre. (plus they'll give me £1000 for my Aprilia RS 125 Sports Pro (SP)

Or

2004 R6 @ £4500, 14k miles. only 1k miles warrenty and £500 for the RS125 SP. The R6 has been prepared by Stu Wilson (apparently he's well known within motorbike racing?!! seems a top guy.) fitted with Power Commander and Race Can.

The Aprilia is X reg (2000) with 16,000km. Its a very limited edition bike, producted solely so Aprilia could enter into the 125cc motoGP.

Peoples opinions????

I'm inclined to go toward the 2001 bike: Fewer miles, standard so cheaper insurance, better trade in price, 6mnth warrenty.

bearing in mind I paid £3750 for my mint 2004 R6 with 1500 miles on the clock, you my be best going private. £4000 for an 01 R6!!

DK is amusingly overpriced! go there, test ride what you like, then buy private!
you should get more than £1000 for you RS aswell if its not a nail.

if the warrenty means that much to you, you can buy them for peanuts from a number of places, but I cant see you needing it, there is not a lot to go wrong on a low mileage bike, not expensive things anyway, only if they have been abused, but you can normally tell that from condition/head bearings.

gratz on the test. was just looking on bike trader and your type of bike goes for a lot more than £1000.

i agree way overpriced considering you can walk away with a new 600 for around £5500. What's been done to the bike with the bits on it, any engine internals? if it's just an endcan and powercomander fair enough but if it's more do you want the hastle and cost of maybe rebuilding the bike every however many miles? me i'd rather just buy a gsxr750 and have the reliablity over a tuned 600.

Its merely the exhaust and PowerCommander fitted, yes. I've also worked out that using their finance option the bike will actually cost me over £6k! Thats new bike money.

And unfortunantly for me as soon as I do new bike insurance quotes I have to add another £1k to costs. Seems whatever I do, something bites me in the arse!

2001 R6 and you should be picking them up for around £3000 with that sort of mileage, in fact i was offered a 2002 only this week as a runabout for £3000 with 9K miles on it and a FYSH.

But as for getting A new 600 for £5500 that would be a pre-reg then because most new 600's start at the minimum price of around £6000.

Prices vary, and you are at the height of summer really so dealers can punt the prices up unrealistically, my advice would be to shop around properly rather than snapping up the first R6 you find.

Also as far as big dealerships go, its rare i have heard anything good said about DK Motorcycles but i suppose that could come down to the fact that as a big dealer they are more interesting in selling at a high price, selling lots of bikes and then having pretty bad customer service isnt what you look for in a dealership i am afraid.

The only Stu Wilson i know of in Bike racing would the Stu Wilson that rides an R1 in the BSB National Superstock series, i think he is from the Crewe area too :)

Do some research and buy privatley tbh. On other forums like VD and BCF there have been lots of bad expiriences with DK. Enjoy whatever you buy though!
