Hi guys. My missus has bought her mum a private reg for her 50th and wants me to sort some quality number plates out for her. So simply looking for recommended sources of actually properly made good quality plates which will last well. She will probably go up to about £25-30 for real good quality ones.

I've had metal/pressed off a seller on ebay and the plates were excellent for £20 so I will dig his shop out but keen to hear from you lot, my life will depend on them being good! You know what women are like :D

Yeah don't go with pressed metal. They belong on slammed e46 320Ds with soft toys hanging from the towing eye

Sorry, wasn't clear at all, we don't want pressed. Just saying I had some before from a seller on ebay and they were excellent quality so I need to find his username and see if they do normal plates :) And I won't be buying pressed again either when I get some new plates done.

IMHO cannot beat DMB!

I quite like the gloss black gel domed ones, completely UK road legal, otherwise just get their 'normal' ones which are very good and only have a tiny 'DMB' and postcode in the corner, hardly visible if you choose the border option as it is no 'taller' than the border and sits in a cut-out section of the border

Well, apparently these guys think they can beat DMB, but then you look at the price tag and swiftly close the webpage haha:

EDIT: Also the key with any number plate is to 100% avoid screws!! Make sure it is stuck on (I personally like to use Harris Number Plate Tape from Halfrauds)

I've got pressed plates with a UK font and no silly German badges down the side. I can't fault them - well made and they've been on the car for a few years now with no signs of degradation.

I can dig the seller up for you if you'd like. They engrave the relevant BS codes and postcode so that's not visible unless you look up close.

I've used a seller on eBay called 'hardridden' for all of my plates. My mums plate has been on her car for a good number of years and they're still going strong. Good value as well.

Am I the only one who can't tell the difference? I haven't seen any plates that I think are 'bad quality'.

My first plates were new from quick car supermarket when I bought my second car, within 6 months what looked like bubbles had appeared around the black lettering fading it. I think all plates look similar when new though.

I've got domed ones from demonplates on my car, and had the same on my old focus for 5 years, stayed in the same condition all through the length I had the car.

Cheers all, will check todays recommendations too.

I've had plates cheap off the bay before and the black font was pretty much green on some, like they were printed with a cheap printer with the black ink running out on crap paper then simply laminated! Some out there are terrible. My missus paid £28 or so from a local place for hers when she put a private reg on her car and they are poor as well IMO, blotchy colouring on the text etc.

Definitely lots of variance out there :)

EDIT, turns out I bought some plates from "hardridden" for my Astra Turbo, they were the crap ones noted above!

Gonna try Proplates. Cheers guys :)

How are the domed plates made? Is it just a font that gives that domed/3d effect but they are still just normal pressed plates?
