QUALITY number plates?

Got mine from Mercedes Benz when I got the private plate. Had them on over a year now and still look brand new, Cost me £20 for the set.

How are the domed plates made? Is it just a font that gives that domed/3d effect but they are still just normal pressed plates?

there's two types. There are the ones with a 3D effect font,

There are also ones that use a gel number that isn't flat and physically stick out a bit. You can usually get them in either black or a carbon fibre effect finish

I still need to replace my front ones, as they're cracked..

Is all the small print really necessary?

according to the letter of the law, they must be marked with the relevant BSAU code and the name / postcode of the person who made the plate. However the law says you must also have a front number plate, but it doesn't stop people getting away without one for years. Bottom line is nobody is likely to care, but somebody could ....

OK I don't mind that, it's usually not noticeable from a distance anyway.

As for no front number plates I guess it's a risk people are willing to take, for a £60 fine or whatever the penalty is. Depending on the car of course..

Yea I see so many people driving around with no front plates now. Not suprising with all the cameras around and lack of anyone (traffic cops) to actually care.

The worst plates I've had were from a BMW dealership, both delaminated and looked awful after about 18 months.
Got my last set from Halfords, not the cheapest but the legal writing is very faint.

As it was only 3 months ago probably the same places as earlier in the thread?

someone just mentioned one that wasn't mentioned, so worth the bump. but thanks for the helpful reply.

we might of the best plate maker in the world join up 3 weeks ago who can point me in the direction of magic plates

My rear plate came from a main dealer 8 years ago and is still perfect (moved it off the e39). The trick is to never droll them as this is what let's the water in.

Also get mine from main dealer. Mostly so that I have a chance of a manufacturer specific markings on the plate.

Of course the downside of that is that when I change car manufacturer, I need new plates made up.
