Quantam of Solace...

Bond need to keep gritty/hard as nails theme but really needs to bring back the charisma and charm of the older bonds.

I do like the new style but its not a good direction for the Bond franchise IMHO. The didn't need to reinvent Bond, just tweak things to bring it upto date.

Was going to see this on Wednesday but I don't think I will bother. Might as well wait for the DVD!

Might go see Max Payne instead. Looks proper gritty, right up my street. Loved the PC games too, takes me back a few years.

I watched this the night before last, and it had quite a lot to live up to as Casino Royale was brilliant.

Whilst I don't think QoS was as good as CR, I still thought it was a cracking film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I defy anyone to watch this film and not think, 'that was kinda cool'.

I loved how he went AWOL and killed every person he was supposed bring in, shows a real dark yet committed side to him.

I would have liked to have seen a bit less action and a bit more story to be honest, but there was enough plot to get by.

I hate to use this as an excuse for the film, but it was nothing more than a bit of filler before number 3 (or should it be 23?), and now I cant wait for the final installment.

I watch the Bond film for four reasons Bond girls, gadgets, baddies and action. Qos scored 1 out of the 4 for me with the action. Not the best Bond film but not bad considering they are flogging a dead horse.

I just got back from watching, really enjoyed it.

Yeah, me too. I don't why everyone's dissin it.

Bond seems like a proper tough spy now (I believe that's how he is in the original books), rather than a ponse with a quiff, and the actions sequences are far more believable. He bleeds when he's punched and actually uses his licence to kill, sometimes when he shouldn't.

They've really dragged it into the current times with the story and villains too. It's all way more plausable than that bilge served up with Brosnan in.

There's still plenty of bondisms too like the hot girls (who he has no trouble seducing), gadgets, fast car chases etc. One of my favourite bits is where he hops around the hotel balconies to avoid the agents in such a casual manner, it's just like something out of a Connery Bond film.

I'd give QOS 8 out of 10.

I saw this at the weekend and really enjoyed it. However, I would agree with the main criticisms that have been levelled at it, having watched Casino Royale again recently. Casino Royale maintains some of the clever quips and one-liners that are Bond tradition, has the odd gadget or two, and generally strikes a good balance. QoS is too matter-of-fact sometimes for my liking, and is lacking what really differentiates it from all the other action movies out there.

The thing that really made this is an enjoyable film for me is that the action is good, and Craig does a great job as Bond, the best he can with the script he was given I think. I loved the fact that Bond in this film was the most powerful and intimidating he has probably ever been. However, it has lost some of what made it Bond. What they need to do is go back and look at the best Bond movies and find out why they were the best. Roger Moore's Bond films were, for me, too humorous and light-hearted, wheras Timothy Dalton's were too dark and moody, and lacked any charm. Pierce Brosnan's first Bond film, Goldeneye, is still one of my favourites because it combined some humour and clever lines with a good plot, good cast, and just enough 'Bondness'. After that film, it became too much about the gadgets (invisible Vanquish on ice was just stupid). They need to get a mix of some of the Sean Connery charm and the Daniel Craig brute force.

Edit: I can't believe there is anyone still doubting Daniel Craig as Bond, he was the best thing about this movie, its just that the script didn't have anything that Craig could really work with. I thought he delivered all the lines in Casino Royale brilliantly, just didn't have that opportunity in QoS.

having watched golden eye again recently, QoS is much better imo. some of the more recent bonds (pre DC) seem to be a touch too far fetched these days

They were. But the scales never needed tipping so much the other way. Die Another Day was a very silly film, but the Bond films were never realistic.

I like a bit of fun to my Bond, personally. Everything QoS did good, the bourne trilogy already did ten times better.

I saw it on opening night and have mixed feelings
I thought it was a great movie, but possibly the worst Bond film I have ever seen, but as a movie, I enjoyed it.

bond is meant to be cheesy, he has fights, gets laid and always gets some cool gadgets.
I know they are trying to get more gritty and realistic, but when you go to a Bond film, you are buying into the dream and it should have everything in it...

I treat the bond films more like a spy thriller than a Bond film, doesn't stop them being good, but they are not Bond for me..

Seen this tonight.

I'm a HUGE bond fan but thought this film sucked balls.

**** SPOILER *****

What. The. Hell! I want Goldfinger or a similar baddie back in the next one trying to destroy THE EARTH!! Not some pussy stopping the water supply to some third world country no one gives a damn about.

I want the action, the gadgets, the cars with gadgets back in the next one along with Q to dish the gadgets out.

***** SPOILER OVER ******

Bond films are supposed to be far fetched with guys trying to take over China or some other huge country with Bond using the feather dusters and cotton slippers at his disposal whilst nailing every girl in sight.

QoS is trying to be really down to earth like the Bourne films. Bond should be OTT.

:D

I watched this today and I enjoyed it very much. Maybe it doesn't conform to the expected Bond film traditions in every way but in its own right it was very good.

Thought it was turd, thought Casino Royale was poor aswell, hasn't been a remotely good bond since Goldeneye which had lots of good parts but a few downers to.

The plot for both Craig films have been pathetic, no one makes any sense in the film. He was asked to come in despite the fact that its very obvious to anyone with half a brain what was going on and the smart inteligence agency couldn't put 1 and 1 together to work it out. Casino Royale, while I didn't like it was still far better than this drivel.

As for the bond girl, has there ever, I mean really ever been a more obvious "i've slept with the director" actress than this chick. Can't act for crap, her two previous films, Hitman, and Max Payne were both awful and she was beyond appaling in both, especially Hitman.

Bond seems to have lost all scale, he used to be fighting, as others pointing out, those planning to dominate the world, not petty criminals who are blackmailing small countries out of money, hell thats just standard in the real world. Bond himself has turned from a suarve agent into a thug who kills incredibly violently for no apparent reason. I honestly can't remember, but I don't think he actually said anything remotely cool to get the agent sent to get him back, into bed, it just happened. Then at the end the arch villian(lol, hardly) who is a completely pathetic, skinny twit turned into a fighting machine, it was all ridiculous frankly. Then after all that he ran directly to the girl despite not actually realistically having any idea where she was.

A film for those that like pretty explosions and crap close up punches and no acting, plot or sense.

I thought Olga Kurylenko's performance was superb. She isn't just in the film because of her looks and sex appeal, even though she has that in spades.

I would say that Gemma Arterton wasn't really needed in this film and her performance was mediocre, although that is probably not her fault but that of the script writers. Her role was minor though so it doesn't matter much.
