just played the quantum of solace game and the graphics are shocking. i am playing on max and the game looks like it has been out for a couple of years. and this is still retailing at £35. anyone else agree with this?

Not played it, but then again it's a movie to game conversion, so I wouldn't be suprised. Price wise, a major highstreet store/net retailer is selling it at £14.99.

Not seen the film either actually (will watch when released on dvd) but opinion between my mates seems drastically split. Seems one of those you either love or hate with no middle ground.

It's a blatent exploit of the 007 license and a low budget title. To give it 5/10 would be generous. To call it $h*7 would be more accurate.

It runs the COD4 engine, which didn't exactly look stellar in some places, so no surprise this looks even worse.

did you really expect a game based on a film to be anything other than a complete waste of money?

i could count on one hand the number of games based on films that have been any where near worth their cost.

Ok, let's list good film-to-game conversions:

Goldeneye
Chronicles of Riddick

Any others? They're like hen's teeth :(

Alien vs Predator
Doom
Platoon (C64)
Batman (Amiga)
Resident Evil
Robocop

I'm sure I can think of a few more. Notice though most of the good ones were films based on games rather than games based on films.

i thought think the harry potter series of games are done to a reasonable standard, if you like that type of game, i certainly enjoyed 1 and 2 when i was younger and the most recent one (5?) was a decent enough game

What do you expect from a game when its made the same people who made the likes of:

Pirates of the Caribbean, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, Batman Begins, Robots, Spyro: A Hero's Tail, Athens 2004, Bejging 2008, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Buffy: Chaos Bleeds, Harry Potter. (to name a few of there many amazing titles)

Thus add the fact they HAD to get it released before/ around the release of the film for pure marketing reasons.

In my experience 99% of all Games that have been derived from a film have been a total let down.

Well 99% is harsh. If you include films based on games then I'd say it was 50/50. Chronicles of Riddick, for example, was superb. If you go back to the days of the C64/Amiga again there were quite a few titles on those formats from games which were good.

It's just very hit and miss. Any game based on James Bond could be so good. The gadgets, cars, women, etc. it's just that instead of spending time trying to do something new they just go for the bog standard FPS.
