Quick query on the OCZ cache drives.

We may be putting one in a server (with hp ml110) , im concerned with putting Ssd as i have seen in laptops they just die with no notice.

With the synapse, does it move the data (from the normal disk drive) to the SSD ? or cache's (copies) the files ?

With writing back to the SSD, does it sync back up to the disk drive?

it just stores the most used data on the ssd,if you regularly use certain programs they get stored on the caching ssd so they load up faster

Stored as in copied/used from original hdd, you'd only lose the data stored in the ssd/cache,you'd still have data on hdd, there's two modes of cache, one mode is slightly slower but if power loss ect you don't lose data stored on ssd

It asks you to write the cache data to your hdd if you disable the ssd caching

sorry to go on a bit.

From what your saying , it caches (aka copy) the files. If these files are modified they will eventually write back to HDD.

However if the SSD dies before data is written back , then after reboot /unplug of the SSD it will have the old non cache copied

If thats the case, how often does it write back to the HDD ?

I'm not sure how often, its only if there's a powercut or a blue screen of death you might lose any data on the cache, normal startup/shutdowns it will keep your data ect
