Home wi-fi network, that isn't at my home but my folks 10,000 miles away so want to make this simple. They currently use a PlusNet Hub One ISP provided router for everything, and experience pretty poor wifi I mostly assume because of this, old house thick brick walls, not many devices etc.

I had a quick look around and the Huawei AX3 looks to be a bit of a rocket ship in terms of performance and price and wondered if this would be semi easy to setup?

Set the Hub One to wifi off, and have everything go through the Huawei unit, basically like the info and diagrams in this thread: https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/Hub-One-as-a-modem-
only/td-p/1810356

That seem like a fair enough plan for a £30 outlay?

An AX3 won't solve poor wifi on its own, it has relatively weak wifi that can be boosted by running many as a mesh which is easy to do, brick walls are a problem for wifi in general.

I would suggest a mesh setup though I might avoid the Huawei as they seem to be lacking in the support of the devices, I have submitted a few bug reports, nothing critical but no response from them.

That said 1 AX3 could be setup as a simple wifi repeater for the plusnet hub if you just wanted to extend the range.

TP Link Deco seem to get reviewed well on the lower end mesh setups, you just need to decided on what level of performance you need and the budget.

Thanks, not that we have especially 'poor' wifi maybe in terms of coverage, but drop outs, it lagging, requiring resetting etc seem common, but could be better for a small outlay, and hopefully the ax3 would be better than the Plusnet unit. With an easy upgrade to mesh should this be required later. AX3 seems to be held in pretty high regard for the price, less than £30.

I'll look into cheaper mesh setups too. Would they follow the trend of turning wifi off on the plusnet router, and any changes to DHCP? I've seen a few people leaving it on, some off.
