Query regarding UMTS (T Mobile Web n Walk)

I have recently started using T Mobile's Web n Walk USB Modem as there isn't a landline or any other chance of getting the internet at my rented place. I want to start playing online games again, but I'm unsure as to whether this is viable with my current connection. I have run speed checks a few times and my connection seems fairly stable and averages out at about the equivalent of a 1mb line. I'm getting download speeds of roughly 130kbs too.

Essentially, if I wanted to play MMORPGs, would I be able to do so, or am I due for plenty of disconnections/lag? Unfortunately I have a 3gb monthly download limit, so am unable to download a trial of a game to test. My connection seems fine for gaming, but I don't know how UMTS handles it, and there doesn't seem to be a wealth of information on the subject available.

Has anybody tried this setup, or has any advice to offer me? I would really appreciate it!

Last time I did tests on my tmobile connection using HSDPA it averaged around 120ms to a UK site...

If it's stable at that... then it might just work. Depends on the routing to wherever you're off to.

Interesting. How would I test something like this? The game I intend to play is Lord of the Rings: Online. Can I ping them or something, and see the response? I'm a bit of a cretin when it comes to things like this, so excuse my idiocy. :)

I just gave this another go http://internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/

and my results are...

Download Speed : 1.06mbs
QoS: 71%
Round Trip Time: 98ms
Max Pause: 101ms

How does that look?

Is there any software that allows me to run a test similar to that one, but on a longer scale, or at timed intervals? I would like to test repeatedly overnight or whilst at work, to get a broader range of results and see how it varies.
 
The CMD window closes quite quickly, but I seem to average at about 120ms.

Can I run that test for longer, or something? Also, are there any tips for optimising connection quality with a setup such as mine? At the moment I have the USB Modem on the window sill. What could I do to improve it? :)
 
Or actually type cmd or command and then press enter

This will open the command prompt in a permanent window - it sounds like you're just typing ping straight into the Run dialog.

How does that look? I think MMORPGs tend to be less of a strain than playing an FPS online would be, if that makes any difference. Not sure though.
