quest 2 over usb 3

Might just be it's three years old now and been replaced. Glad I picked one up. Cheap and cheerful, not the best range but great for virtual desktop.

Perhaps not great range through walls, but line of sight I was running out of scenery/environment before wifi.

Even the rubbish 5GHz signal from my Virgin Media cable modem gives great performance on wireless link - as long as I'm in the same room.

I setup a cheap Wifi6 router in the spare bedroom which I'm using for work, as I had to run an ethernet cable there. Again, gives a great signal on the same room, but just isn't good enough for reliable wireless PCVR in the living room on the floor below.

The new WIFI 6E standard is even worse at going through walls and floors.

am im assuming correct that the HTC vive that i used to have, is a direct GPU output and the Oculus instead streams the video signal to the headset if that makes sense

Yes, but even with the streaming compression you get with wireless connections, the image quality of a Quest 2, Pico or Quest Pro over wireless is far, far, far, better than a HTC Vive.
There is almost no SDE (Screen door effect). You'd be amazed how much better it is.

I will see what the boys ones like, then maybe i will have to dip back into, loved the vive but it was so clunky, and the lightstations were a pain
