I’d have actually been tempted by the Quest pro with the recent price cuts were it not for the fact that the Quest 3 is all but confirmed for release later this year.I read earlier that the price drop will be actioned in the UK on the 15th March.

Yep, the biggest issue is that we don't know exactly how they will compare.
However I doubt Meta will release a £500 headset that outclasses their Pro £1000 headset.
There will be compromises, we don't know what yet.
They do seem to be pitching Quest 3 as a slightly more expensive enthusiast headset. Makes me wonder if they'll ship with Pro controllers.
If it doesn't ship with those then it could be approaching or exceeding the Quest Pro price point if you add in a better headstrap, pro controllers and charging dock as optional extras.
I don't see developers abandoning the q2, there's too many of them. 20 million headsets. Wouldn't surprise me if the cheap headset has the same SOC as the q2. Flood the market with a very cheap headset that has an already large library. Pancake lenses to help reduce the size, but otherwise similar to the q2.
But AAA games need AAA sales, and that means q2 numbers. Or of course the cheap headset is actually on the same cheap as the q3. If they manage that, I would imagine people will be more willing to sell on their q2s. Though who'd buy a 2nd hand q2 when the QCheap is available?I don't know what's going to happen with developers and the Quest 2. I think for a while developers will cater for both. But, If we are going to take the next step in VR development we need more powerful headsets. And it's now at the stage where proper triple A titles are needed, that will look good with the pancake lenses and improved screens.
It's going to be painful and there are going to be lots of complaints, as usual, but, I think it will be a mistake if they make games backwards compatible with the Quest 2.
