The 14 day return policy "satisfaction guarantee" seen here:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/support.php

Does this only apply to products that have been un-opened, or are you able to send back a product after opening / testing it and still recieve a full refund?

The only reason I ask is because I am not 100% happy with my current set of speakers that I have had for a while. They are a 5.1 surround sound set by Logitech (the Z506 set) and I also have a Creative Titanium sound card. Everything is working fine mechanically, but the satellite speakers are basically just very bad, the sound quality is quite "tinny" and they crackle a bit on certain high pitched sounds. Then the bass is like SUPER MEGA LOUD cos the subwoofer is massive and basically annoys the neighbours to no end if they are in. The mid-range is pracitcally non-existant. It's either tinny or SUPER MEGA BASS xD

I wanted to maybe try out a 2.0 sound system, such as the Creative Gigaworks 2.0 speakers, but I'm not sure if the sound quality is going to be better or not, I've never owned a set of speakers without a seperate sub-woofer myself.

So basically wondering if it would be possible to order some speakers, unpack them and test them out, then post them back if they are not any better than my current setup and get a refund (obv. I will pay postage costs).
If they are better, then I will keep them and sell off the old ones.

Anyone know if that is allowed? Is it a common thing to do?
:S

Don't think it's included, the returned product must be in 'Re-sellable' state.

The Z506 set is well regarded, but if you want some crisp music then a decent 2.0 set is the way to go. I'd recommend against Creative though, these would be a much better option:

On the other hand, if you play games or watch movies you'll be severely disappointed. The only real step up from what you have currently would be a full seperates setup, which you'd need a good £500 to start off.

Within the 14 days you can return the item opened. However we would prefer you to return unopened or keep the product as new as possible, as it will be a loss to us otherwise.

I would recommend trying them out in a local store before buying and maybe looking at online reviews of the product because if people abuse the 14 day policy we currently offer, we can remove it off customers, or we could remove it completely.

As we want to give the best support we can to our customers we cannot compensate everything. If you were to abuse this policy we may remove the 14 satisfaction guarantee.

It is there for a cover, and it is not there to rent items from us to see if items are any good.

For example, if you were to buy 10 speakers, try them all out and return 9 that you do not like, it would be unfair to us, and we would see this, and we could reject this. It depends on the products, how the products are treated and how the customer is using the policy.

It is all about being fair, we trust you in using the policy, as you would trust us to accept them back. :)

5UB Puts it best. Try it from a local store or try another e-tailor you don't really use much and send back before 7 days under DSR

Ok, thanks very much for the reply 5UB, I understand it now.
I would ofc be very careful with the item and packaging and return it in flawless condition if I ever decided to try it.
I have read a tonne of reviews and watched some youtube footage, but I find it difficult to make a judgement for these kind of upgrades without actually sitting them next to your current setup and trying them out.
I definitely wouldn't use it to "test" more than 1-2 products out. Might try looking in some local shops or something to see what different setups sound like, then order from OCUK ofc :D

Yeah the setup is primarily for playing PC games and watching movies on bluray. The Z506 is pretty good when you are sat a distance away from it, so for movies it is ok (except lack of mid-range is kinda annoying with voices - they have practically no bass so they sound very 'tinny', and again high pitched noises cause crackling in the satellites). For PC gaming, because I am so close to the monitor, the sub woofer is under my desk at my feet, and for me to hear the bass from that position, I have to turn it up to a volume where it is pumping through the walls / floors >.< Which is why I was considering a 2.0 desk setup.

The Edifier set looks nice, but is out of stock and it looks a bit big for sitting on a desk next to a monitor. The Creative sets look really nice size wise, and from reviews the sound quality is supposed to be good, but the output wattage looks rather low for the price, so I am worried it just won't be anywhere near as good as my Z506 :S
I don't nessecarily need / want super LOUD music, but I would like really good quality sound, throughout all pitch ranges, cos I listen to a wide variety of music so good treble / mid range without sacrificing on bass, for <£100 price, and I have literally no idea what the best option is compared to a Z506, with it's super mega bass and tinny highs, 0 midrange.

That is great then, you will not have any problems when returning (hopefully you wont as they are a good set of speakers you have picked out). :)

Not possible we all dont live next door to overclockers also overclockers dont have time to let you try each product before you buy.

That is why we said a local store, there are usually local computer shops that allow you to try the product before you buy, so basically you can try there, and then buy from us. :D

You can't reject anything within the first 7 days though, no matter what, right?

Within DSR, law applies. - As to our own extended warranty, we have extended it for a cover and not for people to be abusing the system. I doubt we will ever need to reject, as I am sure our customers are not here to be unfair. But if customers are caught being unfair and are abusing the system, then we will obviously deal with the matter. :)

I dont know any places that allow that and you cant count the purple shirt guys as dont normally have the stuff you want to try.

It is a shame really, would be ideal if we had showrooms around the UK which are not shops, but just showrooms showing all the stock we have. Problem is we sell so many different items, it would be impossible, and the cost of running these showrooms would more than likely bring up the cost of the products, so not really ideal for you guys either as we and our customers prefer low pricing! :)

so it is OK to buy 10 sets of speakers and DSR 9 of them as long as you do it within 7 days :D :D

We do have a button here called "Hotfile", so that advice is not really sensible. :p

How i wish you could myself but we all now its impossible to do for any company.

Just out of curiosity. What percentage of revenue comes from onsite sales? I'd imagine it to be very low.

Obviously are an online retailer and not a massive chain. It would have course be unfair to abuse the system. The massive chain on the other hand. Abuse away!

Im more than happy to abuse that purple shirt place, that indian food from last night and that blazing thing in space. As they have only tried selling me/family/friends things in the past that aint needed and it annoys me how they operate. Ocuk have helped me with the few orders i have made and tbh ive spent over 300 in afew months here and wouldnt go anywere else now despite price (I love my free next day shipping)

It is a bit random to be honest, obviously I cannot say about business information here, but most people who visit the shop can say that it is usually quite busy, queuing to order and collect orders. Depends on the time of the day, and what day, but it is usually fairly busy. :)

Really? Not what i expected tbh. All my local electronic stores here are deserted and the occasional none-helpful idiot roaming the isles. I thought all electronic/pc related stores/depots were the same :')
