Hi all,

I have 3x 500gb Samsung Spin points. I am going to run Raid 5. So there is only 1TB shown but if a HD dies my raid is sitll active and gives me time to replace it. My question is, will there be any difference running all 3 drives on 1 Power lead, compared to seperate power leads. (this is the first time i have used raid on HDs so i dont know if there is any difference heh)

I have a Cosair HX620w and the Sata power lead has 3 heads.

Thanks in advance

what is powering this RAID 5 setup ??

if its your onboard RAID controller then forget about it. the write times are stupidly slow for software based RAID 5.

RAID 5 is supposed to be all the speed of RAID 0 with backup. On software RAID 5 its not, and can be slower than a single disk depending on what the CPU is doing

either spend £200 on a proper RAID 5 card, or stick to RAID 0 but backup lots.

i dunno im gonna select it from the bios on my Abit Ip35 Pro?

edit i just re-read and u said onboard raid controller is bad. Umm would it be any better if i have a quad core Q6600 and 4gb of ram?

thanks for the email reply, sorry again for the harrassment :)

I will stick to raid 0, with a spare drive for backing up... although its not going to well anyways ill start a new thread hehe.
