Question about backlightbleed?

Update from Benq:

We received a feedback from our repair center; this issue might not be solved quickly due to spare part discrepancy.
Therefore, it is possible to get your own unit repaired, but the estimated time of repair is around 3 weeks.
In this regard, we can also offer you to swap this unit with a fully working upgraded model XL2730Z for an amount of 50 €
Please kindly let me know what option you would like to take, I will then advise with the repair center.

Now i can see that the XL2730Z is about £175 more than the XL2430T so for 50 € (£36) it doesn't sound like a bad offer to me.

If your model numbers are correct, then you're getting a 3" bigger size, 2015 model (vs. a 2014 model), with FreeSync, for only 50€ more. You're getting one hell of a deal, I'd jump on it immediately.

Though bear in mind, you're most probably getting a refurbished unit. But unless there are some visible deficiencies, you're still getting one hell of a deal.

Ps. Seems like BenQ knows their PR 101.

Benq is one of the best gaming companies to work with.
They will even send you the firmware files for flashing your monitor *IF* you can assure them that you absolutely know what you're doing and that you have the hardware for it.

That being said I've never seen a fault like that before. Glad they tracked it down. Definitely seems like standby voltage turning something on that shouldn't be on.
And they offering you a true 8 bit 1440p panel for just 50 pounds more is a hell of a bargain. And it will come with V2 firmware installed.

If you still have the monitor, I'm curious, if you use a monitor test program (Eizo monitor test works great, Aida if you have registered it) and use an all black screen, does it look correct?

The only time i see backlight bleed is when i lift my shirt up! (And i dont mean in a saucy way!)

That's 50€ (Euros) so its about £36.......even more of a bargin.

Will try tomorrow and let you know.

Just tried the Eizo monitor test and all looks fine on the Black screen test so i'm guessing like you said that the standby voltage is turning something on that shouldn't be on.

Just had email from Benq that they have dispatched the monitor and should be with me tomorrow.

Lets see if they ask for the 50 Euros!!

Be class if the courier just forgets lol

Just received my XL2730Z and when I turn my PC on i just get a blank screen.

Before i call them to report a possible fault could it be my graphics card? It a HIS 7950 IceQ Boost Clock 3GB card which should work at 2560 x 1440 resolution.
For info I've got it connected via a DVI cable.

Any suggestions?

Just connected a laptop to it via HDMI and nothing....... All I get is the backlight come on and that's it. The laptop did detect it was a XL2730Z but I couldn't get anything to display.

When you connect a monitor to a laptop, you have to enable the display first.

It can either be the primary or secondary display or you could duplicate it with the laptop display.

Did you try this?

If you did and it still doesn't work, then its RMA time :(

Also on the desktop, make sure you're using the dual link port on the 7950. They have two dvi ports I think, one single ilnk and one dual link.

Yes i set it to extend my desktop onto both displays.....then i tried duplicate but nothing.

My 7950 is a HIS 7950 IceQ Boost Clock 3GB GDDR5 PCI-E which has DVI/HDMI/2xMini DP

Try these:

1) Try to get the OSD to show, when there is nothing plugged in to it. It should probably say something like "signal not found" etc. If you can't even get any error messages to show, then remember to mention that in the RMA letter.

2) If the monitor has an option to manually choose the input signal, then make sure you have the correct input selected.

His panel is completely dead.
He's not even getting the Benq eye care logo or anything. You get the eye care logo when you first power on the monitor, even if it's not hooked to anything.

OP: You don't get the eye care logo at all, right?

Yep that right no pink eye logo or OSD from the menu buttons.

Well it arrived and all is working as it should.

Even better is that this time they sent me what i think is a new monitor instead of a refurbished one as when i go into the service menu to check the firmware details i can also see that the Monitor On Time and Backlight On Time where both at 0000hrs 00Min when i turned it on. Also instead of coming with just the panel and stand like all the others did it came with all the cables(DVI/DP/USB) bag & s-switch.

Guys.......i think i was so over the moon in getting the upgrade that after i plugged it in i just used it as it was with out looking to much at the settings.

Last week i noticed that the monitor was set to 2560 x 1440 x 60hz and i couldnt change the refresh rate. My GPU is a HIS 7950 IceQ Boost Clock 3GB connected with a DVI-D dual link cable.

Is it locked at 60hz because of the cable? If so my GPU has mini displayport output so if i get a mini displayport to displayport cable will i beable to increase the refresh rate?

I know i'm pushing it with regards to the graphics and hope to replace this at some point but for the time being i wanted to see how it handled games.
