Question about core speed

I have a 3770k and an asus p8z77 pro and when I first set everything up I used the aisuite to overclock the system.
It returned 4.45 MHz so I was happy with that. But after I have been stressing it today I have noticed that it was using a core voltage peaking at 1.4 and temps in aisuite were touching 70.
So in a bid to lower temps I have reset the bios back to standard and just set the vcore at 1.27 and a multiplier of 45. This gave me 4.5 MHz and temps peaking at 60.
Result.
The thing is cpuz shows that the CPU is at 4.5 MHz all the time where as before it would drop under load. I have checked in the bios speedstep is enabled and the voltage and multiplier were the only things I changed.
Is there something I'm missing?

Mate, ymmv and all that, but I would NOT trust AI suite when it comes to load temp reports.
Mine will show around 50c, but Real Temp will show 70c+ (stock cooler).

Your board is higher in the range than mine though, so hopefully they spent more on the sensors :D

I have this issue in my system(i5 2500k clocked to 4.4) when in CPU-z it shows 4.4 while under no stress and when stressed it is obviously 4.4 even when prime 95 is stopped it still registers at 4.4 it never used to do this and used to down clock when not stressed.
I got the system pre overclocked from overclockers.
Could this be that speed step is not enabled? Can't see how it's been disabled though I did do a fresh install of windows and had to install some motherboard drivers(USB,Internet and so on) could this have done it?
Any ideas as to why this is? Is it a problem or is it fine to leave it?
Any help would be much appreciated

Check Power Options in Windows, if you have it set to High Performance speedstep is disabled, set it to Balanced and it should be back to how you want it.
