Question about Crossfire...

Ive recently decided that I need a new card and was planning on going for the HD2900XT and was wondering what to do with my current card which is an X850XTPE (connect3d).

I was wondering whether it would be possible to put these two cards into a crossfire configuration? Would it be possible and would it be safe to try it out of nobody knew? It just gives me extra performance in todays newer games and saves wasting the card in another machine.

Thanks

no u need identical models for crossifre, you can get away with different brand names but the core structure has to be the same i.e. 2900 and 2900 or x850 and x850, also the new cards use a newer internal crossfire whereas the older cards have the external crossfire connections.

as far as i know it won't work, as the crossfire needs cards from the same family ie HD2000's X1900's ect.

If it would work it will hamper performance as the 2900 will be waiting for the other card to finish it's job before putting the image out, which will reduce frame rates rather than increase them.

I've ordered the Sapphire just out of personal preference :) Will definatly be getting the Arctic silencer for it when it is eventually released. What are the noise and temps of these cards currently then?
