What models....if any. Can play PS1/2 games, mainly want it for Final Fantasy but could invest in a ps3 if it's worth it.

They can all play PS1 games, although compatibility with certain titles may vary.

Only the old 60GB one will play PS2 games.

YLOD?
I have the first 60GB sine release and mine is still going strong. Is also backwards compatible with PS1/PS2 games.

My Launch day 60gb still going strong too. Although thank god GT5 has a save option for the 24h events now as I didnt want to put it to the ultimate test ;)

Same here.

I think most are fine tbh. It's just you only hear about things that go wrong - no-one writes on a thread saying "everything's tickety-boo" haha ;)

Hmmm aren't the 60gb prone to YLOD?

They are the most likely of the models to get it but "prone" is probably too strong a word. My brothers recently went which was a lunch day model and I managed to get it going again and he kept bloody using it instead of trading it in for a slim and its gone again. But there are plenty out there that have never had the problem.

What Final Fantasy games is it you are looking to play? The three PS1 games will work on all PS3s as well as all PSPs and FFX is being remastered in HD for the PS3/PS Vita. If that proves to be successful I would place good money on Squeenix doing the same to XII and possibly X-2 if they thought there was a big enough market as it is fairly easy money since all the heavy work (story, character development, art etc) is already done and paid for.

They can all play Ps1 games, 60GB only supports the PS2 games - the 60GB is prone to YLOD (Ps3s version of Xbox's RROD). I had my 60GB for 2 and a half years and it got YLOD with MW2 stuck in it. Got replacement but 80GB and runs better... for your purpose, not worth the bother.

Ps3 as a console > Xbox
Xbox for competitive gaming > PS3
