Question about QoS ?

I have 2 devices attached via Ethernet to my netgear router a Desktop PC and a Satellite box, but I wanted to allocate more bandwidth and internet speed to the Satellite box.

Will QoS work here?

I only ask since my netgear router does not support QoS so I would have to buy a better router with QoS support. My issue is when surfing on the desktop pc if I do something heavy or stream a video during surfing, it can cause a sudden drop in performance to the satellite box.

So I am just wondering if QoS can give more priority to Satellite box 1st rather then the desktop pc... I don't mind if surfing is slightly slower on the desktop pc either. Is that even possible ?

ADSL broadband 14meg download/2meg upload

I have never used QoS but ideally I was thinking if I can make ethernet port 1 more priority that may give my Satellite box the bandwidth 1st so that way it gets internet streams smoother and glitch free.

But without ever trying QoS I am not sure how it works in reality...

You can't really do QoS as you don't control the traffic coming back down.

Your router will try and schedule Satalite traffic quicker, but the response will be determined by the ISP router regardless of what you want to be first.
