HI Guys
As a lot of you will know I just bought an MSI GTX 960 Graphics Card and I now want to upgrade my 24" monitor to a 27".

My question is will the images on the 27" look as good as the 24" only bigger
or will they look so big it will look stupid.

Mainly used for occasional gaming and Logic for recording.

Thanks

Alan

Generally speaking, for monitors 1920 res would start look not as good beyond 24". If you want to go 27", you'd best go for a 2560 res monitor instead- though your 960 will most probably struggle to game at decent settings at this res.

Depends if you increase the resolution as well, I'm guessing your 24" is 1920x1080, if you increase the screen size to 27" at the same resolution then you will have the same no. of pixels, they'll just be bigger (which IMO is a reduction in quality as they'll be less sharp - depends on your viewing distance and eyesight though!)

Ideally you'd increase the resolution as well, e.g. to 2560x1440, meaning smaller pixels and more of them, which will both increase sharpness and give more screen "space".

Unfortunately it may be a bit demanding for your GTX 960

A 27" 2560x1440 would be good for your music production as you'll have a bigger workspace, but your gfx card will struggle to game at that res

Glad I asked I was about to buy the 27".

So how about I compromise and try this one.

Asus Ultra-Low Blue Light MX259H 25" LED Monitor with AH-IPS Panel

What is your reason for wanting to increase the size?

Have you considered a 29" ultrawide? Same height as a 23" but 30% wider, and only 30% more pixels to drive

Always wanted a 27" monitor it would make everything look a bit bigger but not at the expense of resolution.

I think I would struggle to put a 29" on my desk I have my nearfield monitors on there and there is not a lot of room.

Would a 29" give a decent resolution similar to the 24".

Imo 24" 1080p -> 25" 1080p would be such a minimal change that it would be a waste of money unless your 24" is dying or very old/poor quality.

The 29" ultrawide would actually be slightly sharper than a 24" 16:9. It's basically a 23" 16:9 with an extra 320 pixels each side, so you get the same vertical space and an extra 30% horizontal space. Great for productivity and immersion in gaming, you'll get an (approximate) 30% lower fps in games

My current 24" monitor is a Dell U2414H its about 21/2 years old I must admit since getting the new MSI card it does look better and Eurotruck Sim is really nice with the higher settings I now get.

Hehe, it sounds like you want to upgrade just for something new and shiny? :p

Personally in your position I'd stick with the current monitor, or if I HAD to upgrade, go for the 29" 21:9.

I recently upgraded to 34" 21:9 and now I hate using the "square" 24" 16:9 monitors at work :p

Well although that's not what I wanted to hear I respect what you are saying.

Yes I did want a shiny new 27" monitor but your advice has saved me money
and the hassle of getting a 27" and having to return it when I found out I didn't like it so thank you for that.

I could go for the 29" but I would need to clear some space on my desk so I will keep that in mind for when my Dell finally gives up.

You could always pop into a well known high Street store and take a look at a 24" and 27" side by side and see what you think (just don't buy one from there :p)

Well between you and me I asked the question of them and they said the 27" would be fine as one of them had used the one I was interested in for years.

I was a bit sceptical so I thought I would get a second opinion which is why I asked here.

I suppose the question I should be asking is which card should I have bought if I want to run Eurotruck Sim on a 27" monitor.

If both the 24" and 27" use the SAME native resolution, then they will look identical IF the screen physical panel size is equal in space to your vision. 100% identical.

(What that means is, the 27" panel will have to sit farther back from the panel position than the 24 "panel in order to get the exact same pixel density size to your vision, but of course then the benefit of the bigger screen is lost since it will be too far back)

TBH This is completely irrelevant. If you want a bigger screen and want more picture in front of you, go ahead. If the 27" panel has gaming features you want then it's worth it. Just make sure that if you get one, it suits the purpose you want. You won't be disappointed in a 27" panel of 1920x1080 vs a 24" panel of 1920x1080 if both have the EXACT Same features and specs to the T (e.g. same manufacturer), especially if you're getting it for gaming. A 1440p panel would be better if you had the $ to upgrade, though.

Thanks for the reply and the info.

I could get a 1440 monitor but I was told the MSI GTX960 wouldn't support it than was why I was considering a 27".

I would say even a 24"@1440 would give me a better more realistic picture.

So can I play ETS on a 27" 1440?

I disagree, I had a 27" 1080p, had to "downgrade" to the 23" version in the same range as the pixelated mess was doing my head in (slight exaggeration, but if you have even semi-decent eyesight you'll notice it)

Well guys with all this uncertainty about what looks good and what looks awful
I think my best bet is to keep what I have for now until I can get to see for myself.

If i am honest I am liking the graphics improvement the 960 has given me over the 460 it looks really good.
