Hey guys, just a quick question, don't wanna sound to stupid, but do SSD'S only improve load times? Or is there anything else beneficial about them? Other than durability, cheers.

Faster load times are the biggest difference for me tbh I don't know if there is anything else beneficial but saving a good amount of time during level changes or booting windows makes me smile every time.

Its not just the load time of windows but pretty much every programe you run, it makes your PC feel much much quicker.

I actually don't have Windows on my SSD (I don't give a rats about boot times). I have my most used applications and data sets on the SSD.

I'm in the minority, though. I did some tests and after Windows had booted and stablised (i.e. I did some work for 30 minutes or so after booting before I began) I began monitoring disk input/output to/from the system drive (windows 7). I monitored for 2 hours and, from memory, 99.999% of the disk activity on the windows drive were *writes*, so I figure why bother "wasting" the SSD just for fast boot times. YMMV :D

Silent, incredibly low power consumption, cool (as in the opposite of warm).

It's the seek times too... I've noticed a massive improvement in the way things load. Glad I purchased it, can't wait until they fully replace standard HDDs.

Cheers for the reply guys, will have to wait till next payday to get one, shelled out £850 on a complete new system this month.

I have an OCZ Petrol and a Vertex 2E Both 128Gb drives, I got them because they were cheap at the time. I'm considering getting a larger drive for my games I'm probably gonna go Samsung 830 series.

Go for it, even at £150 when I got it, it's worth it. Think they're going for £130 now.
