Question about Steam games ?

Just seen L4D on steam for £6.24 which for that price i might buy it
I also bought Team Fortress 2 the other week on steam sale

My question is can i install and play the games on a different computer with or without steam ?
And if i buy from steam can i use them on my bro's computer he has his own steam account but can i install them on his computer ?

I think you have to install Steam on the PC you wish to play it on, and then log in to YOUR account. The games themselves are tied to your Steam account and will only function with your login.

This Side Up is correct. You can copy the game files to as many machines as you like, however they will not be playable unless you are logged in as yourself (or specifically the account that the game has been purchased using). For example, if you copied all of L4D to your brother's PC, he would see the game in his games list as fully pre-loaded, but not be able to play it unless he purchased it also.
