Question about tmobiles £1 web browsing.

From T-Mobile website:
£1 maximum daily charge applies to Mates Rates, Everyone and Text Appeal customers. Charges of 0.73p per KB applies until £1 per day (midnight to midnight) is spent.

It's a pay as you go deal so no you don't need a contract.

yep, its a payg only deal. people cant say that t-mob does nothing for payg customers!
also there is payg upgrades now (in certain circumstances)

Thats excellent then, O2 charge £3 a MB their company is such a joke, luckily I managed to cancel my contract with them.

is there a limit on how many MB's you can transfer?

you could just bluetooth your phone to a laptop and use it as a cheapo wireless connection all day downloading otherwise

Fair use policy applies. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, the web 'n' walk service is not to be used for other activities such as (but not limited to): modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video downloads and internet based telephony. If such use is detected, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission.

I'd say they're most likely to packet-shape your connection if they see encrypted connections coming from your phone all day ;)

Orange have / had a similar deal and I'm tempted to pick up a few PAYG sims if I can find a cheap phone able to work as a bluetooth or IR modem.

Same with orange, their data charges are a joke.

You do realise Orange do exactly the same £1 per day for unlimted browsing on PAYG, and have done for several months ;)

Encryption of the file headers and vpn makes it hard to implement packet shaping.

It's just a shame that the method for identifying modem or streaming usage, as opposed to browsing usage, is so much simpler than something you could hide that way ;)

A lot of people have had sucess using encryption with bittorrents over port 80. In fact utorrent and azerus have implemented encryption of the file headers into their new betas and from what I've heard vpn makes it unregonizeable, encrypted or not.
