Question about using tv optical output..

I am thinking about buying a Yamaha RXV667 for the first time but am unsure of how I will get sound to it from my tv tuner (virgin box with scart only) and my old xbox360 (component only) as i want to listen to these on my external speakers.

Can I just plug both devices into the tv and then connect a toslink cable from the tv to the amp and use the tv as a passthrough for the sounds ?

tv is panasonic 42pz85

For Xbox. Connect to TV with component (no need for the red/white audio connectors) but then connect to Amp with Toslink cable. If your using the official component lead that came with the 360 then the optical output is on the grey lump that plugs into the console. Go into Xbox setting and change audio over to digital out.

For TV audio i suspect that just connecting to amp via optical should be ok, not done this so you will need to check the manual.

The original 360 doesn't have an optical output built in. Its part of the component out cable. See my first post.

just checked it and yes its on the lumpy cable bit just as you said.
