question about Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008

can you get tv cards with vista 64 drivers that can use freesat?
what's the cheapest way of getting a satellite that'll work with it onto the front of my house? -will any old dish (ie a sky digital one) work?

the WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 can....

any digital dish would work.

This is the dish that I have, which happens to be right outside my PC room :p. I am assured that this dish is suitable for freesat.

Regarding the x64 question, the only one I am sure works is the one that everyone is talking about, the Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-HD-S2.

cheers for info Robbie and gareth..

if i get hold of a dish, how do you 'tune' the dish to the sky? or does whacking it on anywhere work?

my mate is an electrician, he can probably get me the dish and do anything that needs doing to it..

edit-, take it you still need a tv licence for these?

your dish needs to be pointing at the right satellite....

then u connect the dish to the card, then in the software choose the satellite your dish is pointing to then click scan.

yes you still need a tv licence.. anything to do with tv products/tv broadcast u need a tv license

could i just screw the dish to the wall and point it any old direction? (well, up) that's the part i meant regarding tuning :)

You can try guessing from the direction that your neighbours' satellites are pointing, but unless you can see the screen and move the satellite from the same position, you will need two people and lots of patience.

ok, cool

there's a sky dish that i'll be putting mine RIGHT next to, am assuming it won't use the same satellite as sky? (i know roughly zero about dishes)

will get my mate to get me a dish & aligner probably :)

They use the same satellite! I think it's called Astra. Can't you just run another cable from the existing sky dish?

it's not my dish (people in the flat above, i don't know them -the wife isn't allowed to speak to any men besides her husband, some weird religion i guess)

if i did it sneakily at 2am, would they be able to tell? i'm assuming they have it hooked up to sky at the moment
