Question for Gibbo ?

The X1950 Dual 1gb is waaaay too late to market, I have no idea what Sapphire were thinking (in business terms at least!)

8800GTS all the way for the ££
really depends on resolution you game at, that 1GB memory may well outperform a GTS at 1920x1200

I dunno, i see the 8800GTS 320 mb outperform 2x crossfired 1900's 512mb's in some games especially @ the higher resolutions, from 1600 res...

what like poor drivers?

My drivers are fine :) Basically strapping two GPUs together is a low tech solution to a high tech problem.

You can never have too much choice in the graphics card market, but this card looks like a way to get rid of excess DX9 GPUs if you ask me.

Isn't the R700 going to comtain multi GPU technology !

Anyway can Gibbo please give us a yes or a No as to weather they'll be stocking it !

Please no more fanboy or 8800 are better posts, don't care really just want to ask the question without starting another flaming war.

Make Hay not War :)

THey ahd laods of GPU dies left over and bundled it into one card to try and get rid of them, thats clearly the situation here!

Its way too late on the market

If that was true then the web would be crawling with these for sale. I'd have thought it was created for Cebit or the other big show in Las Vegas to show off how good Sapphire are.

Its not really that late to market as we've not seen a retail R600 yet or even had a decent review.

Similar to a 7950 GX2 really but a little better in terms of engineering.

Spot on - which is why it is late. I think it is a bit off flogging old tech at high prices. Someone who didn't know any better would assume that this was new tech. Surely no-one thinks that it is worth putting effort into making more DX9 cards?

id save up a bit more and get a 8800gts if youre going to spend round the £200 for a graphics card then its not really worth gettin something other than the 8800..that card wouldve been a steal if it was around the £150 mark

but it does show that ati are miles ahead in the multi gpu core race

If that is the case then we should be seeing 2 gpu cores under 1 die, not simply putting 2 GPUs on 1 massive PCB...

How is it any better!?

It has already been done before as early as 6600GT / 6800GT when Gigabyte first released the 3D1 series, and even that was better engineered as they actually bothered to redesign the circuit routes so the PCB ended up a lot smaller than it would have been. ASUS later released their own version of dual 6600GT but the PCB was massive. None of them has been very popular - just something to show off their manufacturing capabilities.

I'm not saying it performs badly but I seriesly think 8800GTS would be a better investment, offers great DX9 performance while supporting DX10 games as well.

tbh I dont care what anyone tries to say about the whole two gpus on one card is amazing crap, its so much better than the gx2 etc!
Basically 3DFX done it first and not only did they do 2 cores with the voodoo 5 5500(which i still own, its somehwere) they done 4 cores on the voodoo 6 6000, my god 3DFX were ahead of their time ;)

Anyways these will be on limited supply and I doubt many etailers will bother with them unless they are actually a good price! It is just way too late to release these and its just a way of getting rid of the old cores

Correct. :)

ATi are going to release this, then what? Bring out the X2900 which will probably render this card obsolete. I don't get the point of this card except for willy waving (ATi can now maybe claim to have the fastest Dx9 only card?).

I might be better engineering... but its not gonna touch the GX2 in a lot of cases performance wise (stock for stock the GX2 gets 27% higher score in 03 and 18% higher in 05), and it can't be overclocked - whereas almost every GX2 will do a +20% overclock out the box and some +25%.
