Question for the cyclers

Merge in plenty of time
Often find cars in brum which insist on overtaking in the last 50 foot on the approach to light or roundabouts so you have to watch out for them but never normally have a problem

Oh wow bitslice, a negative cyclist comment.

Amazing comment. Would read again. A++++++
Oh sit down and unwind your knickers :p

I was just mocking some of the well known London cyclists who post their close shaves on Youtube...

I cycle too (well, I have a few bikes that I look at occasionally)

yeah, but you're faster than the cars!

Cars hate it, Oxford Road on a morning, lethal. Curry mile every day as I live in the middle of it, nearly get ran over every day, it does not phase me anymore, I need to filter on the thing every day!

I'd do the same as if I was driving a car - I'd check behind, signal, then manuvere.

Same as if I'm driving a car normally.

However on my current daily commute, the traffic is often insane. So when I hit the traffic, I know its going to continue past a couple of roundabouts and traffic lights. So I just cycle on the right hand border of the road all the way and ignore the traffic, and then I don't have to merge.

With my experience of cyclists they fly out in front of your car without looking just as you're about to overtake and slow right down for the next 200m dead centre of the road.

Lifesaver. Signal. Lifesaver. Move over. All done well before the junction/lights.

That's how it works for me 90% of the time. Sometimes road layouts or traffic requires a little creative thinking though. That's life as a vulnerable cyclist on roads where car drivers often seem obvious to you.

Check, signal, Check, Manoeuvre. But it really depends on the traffic, when the cars are close together I really don't have much choice but to head up the left and pull in front of the car at the front; this is normally fine. Annoys me when the car at the front is parked in the cycle bay though.

When I did my "cycling proficiency" at primary school many many years ago I seem to remember being taught that when turning right you should signal twice, once to indicate that you are moving over to the right hand side of your lane then once that manoeuvre is complete, signal again for the turn itself.

Seeing as no-one has mentioned this I'm guessing that no-one does that any more?
