Which airlines would you say have the most comfortable business class seats? I'm due a hellish flight next June from NZ to Europe and looking to book fairly soon. With quite a few airlines flying in these parts of the world to Europe, I'm a bit stuck for choice. Since I don't really fly long haul that often, I don't really have a great deal of experience in these matters. Are they all roughly the same? Singapore Airlines come highly recommended to and so does Malaysian Airlines, though I'm not too sure about Malaysian Airlines at the moment :(

Would probably avoid Malaysian just now. Not just incase something else happens to their flights, but they were already in some financial trouble before these recent events, so there will be no guarantees that they will still be around in 11 months time. So wouldn't be putting my money there early anyway.

To be honest, I haven't flown long haul business class, but have passed through it on a few long haul flights. Mostly BA and KLM though. I felt BA had it between them two, but have heard good things from the airlines further east.

Just had a look on Emirates. I'll be flying on the A380-800 if I book that specific day. Business looks nice. I suppose it also depends on the aircraft. Guess you can't go wrong on the A380

I'd pick one of Singapore/Cathay/Emirates. Big deciders would be flight tines, whether or not they fly their good aircraft on both legs (eg Emirates A380 is much nicer than A340) and which FF program you were in.

Yeah, I'd agree with what's being said. Singapore or Cathay if you're looking for the best seats.

We're flying to New Zealand with Cathay in December.

Why would you not fly malaysian now? They're no less safe, and surely cheaper now than before.

If they do go out of business it won't be immediately, and they're bound to offer refunds or other flights to existing customers.

Malaysian is government funded and therefore I highly doubt will go anywhere, their fleet will decline significantly but they'll still be in business :)

They were/are technically less safe - they've illustrated a blase attitude to risk in flying over an area of conflict in order to shave costs on the route (something other but not all airlines did too).

i just came back from JFK to MAN with American in business class. Seats were very comfy and allowed me to sleep pretty much all the way home. You really want a flat bed not an angled lie flat one if possible, the angle isn't too bad but the true flat one does make a difference. That said, the copious amounts of booze you can consume would enable you to sleep anywhere!

This website is a handy comparison of seats.

Something to consider is looking at the seats and will they be super comfy etc. HOWEVER what you are really paying for when you get out of the cattle, is service!!
That is the most important aspect of it, so go with which ever airline deems to have the best service.

I'm 6'4. I'd choose an excellent seat over excellent service, especially on a 30-hour journey. Most of the airlines mentioned in this thread offer both though. :)

Emirates > Economy Back row > Closest to booze > Drink > Sleep.

That was our plan when we went to India, what's the expected increase in price to stretch your leg a little?
