Question for uni students

Define free.

We have 12 hours of contact time a week (2 hours for each of the 6 modules).

Some people thus see the other 156 hours as free. However if you actually want to pass you don't!

First year here and 14 hours a week of lectures. There is some work to do out of uni of course, but it isn't all that much for me.

Around 21 hours timetabled, tend to work 9am-5pm regardless. Occasionally working until 10pm. 3rd year engineering student.

Am I going to fail uni if I find a-levels hard?

It's a possibility but unlikely that you'd fail for that reason alone, you'll almost always think that the most difficult exams you've ever done are the ones you are currently taking/studying for until you go onto the next set and the difficulty ramps up but you'll hopefully find that you're more capable also. Generally these things are designed so that they are a progression which is why it goes GCSEs, A Levels, university or whatever you choose to do - there's supposed to be an ascending level of difficulty there.

And although I'm not at university now I think I was on about 8-10 hours of contact time for most of uni while doing law - in theory supposed to be doing 2-3 times that outside lectures in preparation as well but I doubt there were many weeks where I even approached that figure.

Have 5-8 hours a week contact time, but being a third year architect free time is at a premium, especially during projects. Thankfully the next few weeks are dedicated to dissertation which I was good with and got most of out of the way over summer, so these next two weeks should be relatively relaxed.

It does vary greatly dependant on course and year. My flatmate does English Language and has 6 hours contact time and next to no work outside of this, so he has a lot of free time :/

I have around 40 hours of contact time and then work outside class a lot, some weeks (such as last week) I'm lucky if I finish before 8, others I have a reasonable amount of time off. Still have plenty of time to go out and to the pub etc...

But yeah, it really depends oh how you work and what course you do.

I take TV Production and in my first year it was about 10, same in the second year most of the time, sometimes less, this year however it's hardly anything, in fact there's about 2 hours a week. But that's because we've got our own film projects to manage and work on (the first a short film, then between 15-30min next term) plus a dissertation and couple of essays.

Second year, in which I have 10 to 12 hours contact time. However, the work is of a much higher calibre this year, the reading alone has increased dramatically. So a lot less than first year would be my answer, when I had quite a bit of free time.

Currently in 1st year studying computer science, have around 23 hours of scheduled lectures/practicals/tutorials.

I thought I would have a lot of free time but I've found that I do really need to dedicate at least an hour a night to uni work.
