I know that in lugano the biggest city in southern switzerland ( 50000 inhabitants ) have only a gay sauna but with two entrance, the entrance in front of the street is used only from tourists and the entrance of the backside often used by locals.

So they only use the backdoor then?

Well, if all the Locals use the backdoor too.. Maybe they have added something to your Toblerones? :p

:p YES. if a city have 50000 inhabitants the probability to see someone that you know is much more higher than in a really big city like London.

When I you walk in Lugano in a normal day of winter for several time you always see the same people. In summer very different because there many tourists.

Good question, it depends of where you are. In zurich and Geneva I ve already seen two men walking hand in hand, here in southern switzerland very difficult to see this and in the pub of the village ( for example my village have 600 inhabitants ) they know who is gay and sometimes jokes about it. So here rather conservative. I know that in lugano the biggest city in southern switzerland ( 50000 inhabitants ) have only a gay sauna but with two entrance, the entrance in front of the street is used only from tourists and the entrance of the backside often used by locals.

Interesting - do you think this is a cultural difference between cantons? Is southern Switzerland the Italian speaking canton? Perhaps they have something of an Italian macho culture which means looking down on gay people? Geneva is the French speaking canton and Zurich is German speaking right?
