My mobo is an old D875PBZ Intel (SATA1) , im looking at buying
Western Digital Caviar RE 250GB 2500YS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-104-WD) £59
Western Digital WDSC50RCW Secure Connect Serial ATA Cable (CB-000-WD) £7

ive read the sticky re Sata II compatibility and it would seem it would work ,
so before i buy can any kind person confirm ?

Yep, it's backwards compatible. Just be sure the jumper on the back of the drive is set to limit it to 1.5 GiB/s rather than SATA2 speeds of 3.0 GiB/s.

Most drives come set to SATA1 speed by default just in case.

ok, i have a problem, ive plugged the HD into my 2nd sata port and its powered up and shows up in the bios
however, in windows its not there ? ive set a jumper to 1.5gbs and tried various things but im flumexed now, what am i missing or done wrong ?
any help appreciated , cheers

in device manager under under Disk drives it shows two HD's

in My Computer it shows only 1 HD (c: ) and a list of CD/DVD drives

Right click on My Computer and pick Manage. In the left hand pane of the resultant window pick Disk Management, you're new disk will hopefully show as Disk1 with no partitions defined. Right click on the empty space and create a new partition, once it's formatted you'll be able to access the disk in My Computer.

DOh!!

thats great its sorted now, im not exactly an expert on PC's as u can tell

thanks you all for your assistance , appreciated ...
