Hi whats your opinions on this?

Is a i5 12600k a downgrade, upgrade or sidestep from a r9 5800x when taking into all the considerations of newer tech, future proofing etc etc

tia

I made the same change and would consider it a sidestep really. The 12600K is definitely easier to cool though and overall I’ve found the intel system more stable.

Seems a bit pointless to me unless you go for the 12700k.

Better off waiting for Raptor Lake if changing to Intel, but then I'm not sure I'd bother unless boards out at that time can support Meteor Lake as well.

You could drop a 5900X into the current system. Future proofing with DDR5 and PCI-E 5 will cost as much as a 5950X.

I have actually thought of doing that, they are £449 atm on ocuk....but cant make my mind up....fancy something new but then when you put in the fact to go for intel there is a new board to buy and in my case I would need a waterblock as well then it seems a lot of money for little gain. If money was not an issue then I would go for it with the i9, but i have a budget off £550 tops so my options are limited ;)
